Take a look at the round 48-LED lights at Northern Tool. They run 30 hours on 3 AA and put out a lot of light. I bought 2 for $11.99 each and there is plenty of light and no wiring to have to deal with. I was considering the Hong Kong stirps but found these from another board I am on and they are awesome.

One string will run non-stop for a couple of days on a fully charged vexilar battery. If you are running them off a battery that is being used for other things as well, the length of time will of course be diminished.

My BHK lights showed up yesterday. The ship date was the fifteenth and I probably ordered them the 13th or so. So all in all took about two weeks to get them. They look really cool but i have not hooked them up yet. Probably work on that tonight or tomorrow.

I looked at many different brands of rope lights, nothing I saw could compare to the BHK lights. I'm not sure if I looked specifically at the Scheels lights, but I imagine they are comparable to most of the other rope lights out there.

I ordered two sets of the 48 white lights from BESTHONLED last night. I didn't get any backorder notice, so I'm hoping to have them by the middle of December if not earlier. I'll let everyone know what I think of them when I get them in and have a chance to put them up in my Guide.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in this company with all the guys that have ordered up these lights. I ordered (5) 48cm string lights a while back, and they were on backorder at that time too. I don't think I ended up getting them until a month or so after I placed my order. I am very pleased with the light output. I wired up one set in an Otter Den and was surprised that one strip was plenty bright.

MuleShack, lets cross our fingers that they got in a new shipment on Tuesday and that we will get them fairly soon. If they send out a backorder notice, you would think I would have gotten one too if they didn't have any. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I ordered two 48cm strips on 11/1. Put them on my Cabelas credit card. Got home and the wife was panicked and tells me Cabelas called and said someone was trying to charge something on our card in Hong Kong so she told them not to approve the transaction. Once I told her it was me and we cleared things up with Cabelas, I got a notification that the lights were on back order. I got confirmation that they were shipped 11/14 and left the country 11/16. I still haven't seen them. Hope they get here soon. I sure would like to get them installed. With this cold weather, it's making ice fast. Can't wait to get out.

I thought maybe we lucked out, but I just got the back order notice in my email today. With my luck, now that I have actually found good lights, they will show up next April. tongue.gif For those of you that don't like lanterns, use a headlamp if you have one. I did that when I was by myself quite a bit last year and it works okay. If you don't have a headlamp you should get one anyway! Makes packing up tip-ups and other gear very nice at the end of the day.

I just got my 2 strings from HonLED on Saturday. I installed them in my otter cabin and am amazed at the light output. I anticipated needing a bit more for over the holes so I built two more lights using 1156 LED's. I don't think I need them. Can't wait to get out.

Ordered mine 3 dys ago and recieved a back order notice right away. Today I recieved a new notice that the order was being processed. Let's hope that they got some in and are shipping. In the meantime, I also purchased some LED puck lights from Harbor Freight. $5.99 each, 5 hi-intensity bulbs each, run on 3AAA batteries, extremely bright, and last a long time. My son was playing with one and left it on for three days outside in the garage. It still works and is very bright. I guess that I will use those until the BHK lights get here.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
