20 gauge slug question

I have a nephew that is going up north deer hunting with us this year. First year up north, he is going to use our Mossberg Bantam youth 20 gauge qnd we are going to put a scope on it. My question is what slugs does anybody recommend for a smoooth bore 20 gauge?

20 gauge is just used the first year, so we don't want to buy a slug barrel. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

My 13 year old last year shot a doe with the Remington Sluggers out of an 870 youth gun. You really just need to shoot a couple brands to see what shoots the best in that gun. Don't get sabots as they are not intended for smooth bores.

Federal Tru-Ball is another slug worth noting. I have a niece that has proven to be deadly accurate year after year. Her best feat has been a deer running all out (crossing pattern) at 75 yards. Some would say this is a fluke, be she continues to repeat her accuracy each season with these slugs. I think she's using a Mossberg 500 20 ga.

Try using Brenneke Rotweille brand. I've used them for years on my Remington 870 and haven't gone to anything else. I've upgraded to a 16 gauge and still using the Brenneke. It's very accurate up to 75 yds. I remember my uncle hitting deer up to 100 yds and the deer just drop. Give it shot and you'll love it.

I shoot the Brenneke Golds through my rifled barrell, nothing else. I've tried the sabot rounds, but they just weren't getting the penetration. Very accurate, but poor results.

The regular Brenneke's for smooth bore guns, as mentioned, are another good round.

As I said before, every gun is different and you need to see what shoots best out of your set up. I used to use those Brenneke's but you couldn't give them to me anymore. We did not have good accuracy with them at all.
