Any one else getting their ice fishing tackle together yet?

I've been doing a quick inventory and put in orders for my required tackle inventory. Just got my first order from Little Atom with optic jigs, optic stealth jigs and nuggies in white, motor oil, green and chartruese.

A couple of new smaller chubby darters, fishing line and rod/reel combos and I should be ready. Now if the next couple of months could move along a little quicker I'd be set. wink.gif

Anyone else checking out their ice fishing tackle boxes and new offering from manufacturers?

Ummmm.... Duh!!

-I've been running some jigging spoons for a few years now and will be replacing treble hooks on them soon!

-I'm gearing up for the Portable Mod GTG! I promised Matt I wouldn't miss this year, at least not for the same reason as last year. blush.gif

-New tackle? Definitely have some restocking to do on Little Atom jigs. I have to reacquaint myself with my plastics but still feel like I should be good, maybe a couple more packs of glow/chartreuse Power Minnows though! grin.gif

-New rods? I say this every year, no more rods but I can't resist. Gotta add a couple more Thorne's!

Together yet? Mine was together at the end of the season... hehehe.. Never know when the ice will set in and you have to run on out onto the ice to catch some fish...

I just need to add some line to my rod/reel set-ups, throw some gas into an auger, and I am set to go...

Tackle.. Man, I need more like a I need a nail in the head. But I am sure there is some room in the tackle boxes.. Or I will just add a few more... smile.gif

I'am with you Jim. Its all ready except for the [portable but I put that away with new lights and she's ready to rock. Maybe a rod or two and lets go. The NILS has been started a few times this summer and the cutting tip is new. I do have to send in two tips to get re sharpened.

I love this time of year...

I picked up a bunch of stuff at the Maplewood store that was liquidating there stock. I have also run the auger a few times recently. I have been sorting all my stuff that always gets messed up during the season.

However...still have some open water fishing left in me. I try not to think about ice until December 1 because I seem to get dissapointed when it isn't safe around where I live.

Well, There is a freeze warning in effect for tonight up here! He He He...I have to go out and slap a fresh coat of paint on the old fish house before it gets too cold. I also have to replace some of the exterior luan and install a new seat inside.

Other than that, the 4-wheeler still has the tire chains on it. I haven't used it since March. I have a lot to do to get ready....but, I am getting pumped!!! grin.gif

Oh this is my favotite time of year for open water fishing. Although I did use my Scotty's deadstick paired with Little Atom optic stealth jigs and nuggies for big gills in deep water my last trip out. It just fired me up for ice that much more. wink.gif

Jim... come on now. smile.gif I personally need 2, or maybe 3, more nails in my head. Looks like I have some more tackle coming my way. grin.gif

I'm thinking Chequamegon again this year, think we can work something out?

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
