Remington sportsman 48

A guy at work has a remington sportsman 48, 12 gauge semi-automatic, 2 3/4 shells only, full choke. I know its a older gun, its in good condition. any info??????? Just looking for something for my son, whats it worth or is it worth it. Thanks for your help

Good solid old shotgun. If the price is right grab it. But remember, steel shot might raise hell with the barrel.

In fairly good shape you could expect to pay $175-$250. How's the barrel,wood and is there a vented rib?

i used to have one with a 24" barrel best grouse gun i ever had. i sold it cause i needed money...wish i would have sold something else.

I inherited one from my uncle. It had a 30'' barrel with a set fixed full choke. I never shot it. I recently had it cut down (26'') and had cscrew in chokes installed. I took it out for the first time last weekend. It shot great and functioned flawlessly.

My father-in-law passed one down to my son last year and it will probably hit the field for the first time this fall. He should be big enough to lug the 12 gauge around for a full day as last year he pulled it out twice for hunting pheasants and couldn't muster up the courage to carry it for the walk due to the weight versus his 20 gauge.

I checked around with a gun dealer that I usually buy my new stuff from and he said it would be an excellent shotgun as long as it was in working order. The minute that something breaks on it you are at the whim of availability of replacement parts for a shotgun that is no longer manufactured. That is where it could get expensive.

My son is proud as heck that he "inherited" his grandpa's gun and he honestly doesn't care a lick if he ever shoots anything with it and the price was definintely right.

I had a few problems with mine and had to have a part made but it wasnt to bad. I really like the gun but dont use it very often. Your son will love the gun and the fact that his grandpa used it is cool.

I have my fathers deer rifle and every few years still take it out and shoot a deer for the memories.

Took the gun out trap shooting, did two rounds and had no problems, shot better with this gun then the one I usually use Bought it for $100, should be a good bird gun or collector some day. Thanks for the info!

Is this the same as an 11-48?

I believe a 11-48 was a 5 shot and a sportsman 48 was a 3 shot version.

I have an 11-48 with a thirty inch barrel wit a full choke. this was my first shot gun I picked up a 24 inch improved. cly barrel for it and was going to use it for deer hunting so I installed a rifle sights on it and took it to the range and found that being the gun is not gas operated that there was so much recoil it litteraly blew off the front sights (sheared the screws off) thought it was the screws and installed a b-square scope mount and a 3x9 bushnell scope and shot it and it sheared the front bolt off of the b-square and the scope pasted me in the eye and wow what a black and blue mark that left along with a little blood. bought an 870 wingmasdter and deer barrel. the 11-48 is still an awsome bird gun thou and I also learned never over oil the magazine spring to much,oil it and wipe it down.

My 11-48 holds five 2 3/4 shells wasnt sure so I went and loaded it up and yep its five.
