Guest
For an Iowegian transplant today is an excellent day. I get to ice fish after the Hawkeyes humiliate the Gophers, as they did last night already on the wrestling mats. Now if there was a chance in hell that the vikes would pull one out tomorrow it would be an amazing weekend.Seriously though, I do believe that a few of us in the Aitkin area will be venturing out on the ice for the first time this season today...best of luck...go hawks! Scoot
Wrestling??? How did the chess matches turn out this year? Talk real sports- basketball, football, hockey. Scoot
ChapstickCharlie
You wanna talk wrestling? Try wrestling with having to buy an nr fishing license AND an nr portable shelter license. Now how am I supposed to afford all those Angel Eyes and such after that?Charlie (one good sleeper hold away from a blitz out!)
Surface Tension
I tell ya what I played them all but my favorite is wrestling. Combined with kicks, strikes, submissions and good Ole street fightin you got a well rounded dude. Its just harder to find someone to play with. You can look at all the sports and the best attitudes come from the wrestlers. So they may not be the highlight of sports but there really isn't a truer form of composition. Steve Foss
OK, remind me not to pull Surface Tension's leg too hard. He may get a reversal on me, not to mention a painful full Nelson and all those other cruel wrestling holds I learned about in high school (I was the victim, not the perp). As for the Vikes, yeh, whatever! [This message has been edited by stfcatfish (edited 11-16-2002).]
Guest
Iowa? They finally get a wrestling win after watching the gophers cruise to the title two yrs. straight. Nice job charging the field at the dome and tearing down the goalposts. Pretty classy move for road team fans. Anyway hope you catch a fish or two.[This message has been edited by Snook (edited 11-17-2002).][This message has been edited by Rick (edited 11-17-2002).]
Mankato-Ice-Man
I will had it to the H-eyes. They came out of nowhere this year and have beat much better teams then ours.As for the fans after the game, I don't have a big problem with it. If we had a real college football stadium that we could fill with our own fans, I am guessing there would not be an overwelming majority of road fans in the stands to allow them to trash the home field. From the way it sounded, there were 4 arrests and nobody was hurt, so it is just college ball and college fans.
Guest
I turned it off too early I guess. Did not see the nonsense after the game but, It embarrasses me to even have this post in my name after that dump. I realize college kids will be KIDS but, come on now pull your heads out of your butts Iowa CHILDREN! Speaking of football, don't you just love it when madden does the games after ice up and they always show somebody ice fishing on one of the metro lakes during the intros...gotta love this state! I would like to see them film somebody setting in their permanent on the big pond watching the games...that would really blow those unfamiliar with Mille Lacs Ice cities away! Fishbiz
Snook!! Now what a SHORT memory you have!! Iowa dominated the ENTIRE world for 20 years while Dan Gable was here!! Now his wrestlers and other disciples are coaching and winning the GABLE WAY!! 2 years in a row, big Deal!! How about the previous 20 when UM wans't even in the top 50!!As far as Class of Hawkeye fans, I do agree what they did was out ofline, but don't put all of us in that category!! Just like I don't think all Minnesotan's are idiots for electing your Gov. ow about that one?Anyway, at least we can all agree that MN has probably the best icefishing in the US. Look forward to getting up their soon!!
Guest
Mankato-Ice-Man......Don't be fooled!!! The Gophers aren't that great, and this is the best they've been in years. They couldn't fill any stadium, indoor or outdoor. So there's no reason for my tax dollars to pay for a new stadium that they still won't fill.Good Luck,Rusty
Mankato-Ice-Man
Rusty, I would love to say that you are wrong, but I know us Minnesota fans, and you are most likely correct. I still think a smaller stadium on or closer to campus would get at least more of the students to the games as well as the folks that just want to watch an OUTDOOR sport. As far as tax dollars, there have been several plans put together that do not call for tax dollars for any stadiums, but have not gotten off the ground. I am in the group that thinks a stadium would pay for itself, and if put in the right location, could add much, much more in growing buisness and jobs and just more cash flow.Certainly, millons or dollars are lost and thousands of jobs if we lose a professional sports team.If someone comes up with a plan that passes the cost along to the people who will benifit from the stadium the most (owners, usage tax, personal seat license, naming rights to the staduim) and a minimal if any cost to me, I would be all for it. More often then not, staduims are huge to the cities and states that they are built in. Millwauke being the latest to not prove this.Anyway, I have babbled enough.JeremyPS- Gotta love that class act Brett Favre leaving the sidelines before the game was over and not shaking hands like a man! Go Vikes.
Guest
Mankato, You are probably correct also. A smaller stadium, closer to the U of M might draw out more fans, and it would be fun to have an outdoor stadium. I'm just extremely skeptical about where the money comes from, as I think the U of M is better at stealing money than anyone. Red McCombs can build his own stadium Good Luck,Rusty
Guest
As far as the U of M having enough money, they've got tons because they tend to soak college students like me for tuition and then construct 10 buildings that I will never step foot in because I will have long graduated. As far as building a stadium on campus, that shouldn't be a problem . . . all they would have to do is give us students the biggest tuition hike in the Big Ten for the third year in a row. Hey, that's cool, don't worry . . .I have the rest of my life to pay off my student loans . . . and now it'll probably take that long
