Old pic SD record channel

I was surfing and found an interesting old pic of the South Dakota record channel, 55# . It was caught in 1949 in the James River (longest unnavigable river in North America). Look at the SD game/fish/parks web and link to record fish to find the pic. That ol'boy must have had fun catching it and it probably fed his family for a week.

Boy, that sure looks like a blue to me. Look at the straight edge of the anal fin and the hump before the dorsal fin.

Great fish, but I'm calling it a blue.

I don't use nothing but Penn reels myself! IMO they are the best reels you can buy!

How do they cast I fish shore half the time and casting is important, Ive heard this may not be a strong point of Penns?

Here Here for Penn! aaoohga. they are hard to cast but the right rod and practice they work great! But I also grew up using old knuckle busters!

The best Penn reels for casting are the 320Gti, 320Gt2, 330Gti. These reels are very smooth for casting and you can really wing it out there! They are all big reels and can hold a ton of line!
