Oh yeah! We had one of them near the boat last night as well but Darren wouldn't pull it in. Must have been brother or sister to that one.

I can only hope to catch one of those guys. I tell ya, everyone says they suck but they look awesome! I was crossing my fingers last night but couldn't get a hookup.

What kind of hooks do y'all use to increase the turtle hookup percentage? We had about 30+ bites in this one spot where we pulled 2 channels last night. Most would hit it and be gone before you could even engage your bail. Some wouldn't pull clicker but the bait would be gone. I was sure that we had some good turtle action mixed in with channels and who knows what else, but we never got anything but those 2 channels from that spot.

We don't target them aanderud, so no specific hook is used. They usually bite on cutbait. If you can grab their back legs it pretty much imobilizes them.

Yeah, I know you don't target them, I was kidding....sorta. I was wondering what sized you used when targetting channels and accidentally catching turtles -- in case mine are too big and I need to downsize to accidentally hook into a softshell

I've been using 8/0 to 10/0 octopus hooks and then some medium-large circle-octopus hooks that LFC gave me one day. Maybe 8/0 or so, I would guess.

The word on the street is that Ed has been using a secret bait to catch these turtles/Channels! From what I hear it comes in many flavors, also pull-n-peel,bites,nibs,and regular.

Sweet Turd! Turtles are one of the only critters I am scared of[Dobson flies being the other]. We got one near the boat last year that hissed at me when I took the pliars to it. I cut the line . Makes me hungrey
