I've had mine go out a couple of times. Have you unplugged it and let it sit for 5-10 minutes then fire it up and see if it work? Try that first. I've had good luck with the Motorola I have now.

Yeah, I have tried resetting it, I've tried reinstalling it. Judging by the lights on the front, it won't even initialize. And my computer won't recognize it.

I just moved, so maybe something happened to it in the move.

So its not the cable companys modem I see... grin.gif

And your NOT talking wireless router correct?

Who was and is your service provider it may be a software or compatibility issue although thats unlikely if its not lighting up at all.

Are you using the right power supply?

Anyway Motorolla, Toshiba, Linksys they are all about the same these days, NetGear would be one to steer clear of.

If you get no lights, nothing the cable company can do. Try another outlet (sure you've done this) then just get another modem. Can get them now for $50. If they last you 4 years, consider it lucky, mine don't always last that long. $50 for four years is still cheaper than leasing and your aren't giving any more money to comcrap.

My thoughts exactly!

You may have to contact the cable company.

It could be on a different network segment (or something like that) and your modem MAC address is not authorized for that location. Dunno how tightly that's controlled though.

Also, it could be poor signal strength, IMO.

When you move you have to have the modem re set up through the cable company. Even though you moved only a couple of miles. Call comcast. They will probably want the MAC number on the modem. Tell them your symptoms and they will reconfigure it to your new account. We moved from Blaine to Brooklyn Park and had the same problem.

Well, it was definitely the modem. My new one is hooked up and working great!

Sure the new one works; AFTER he called the cable company and had it provisioned for his new location.

Doing the same probably would have "fixed" the original modem.

Thought I was going to be sly a few years ago and bring my cable modem to a friends house to do some updates to his computer instead of using his (at the time) dial-up connection. His place is only 1 block East and 2 blocks North from me, my modem did not work at his house.

Yeah, sorry to tell you, but you are wrong. If you read my posts, the old unit does not even power up and the computer does not recognize that it is plugged into it. I know all about registering the MAC address. That was not the problem. The reason your modem did not work at your friend's house is that you tried to use it on a connection that was not set-up for your MAC address. I called Comcast to transfer service before my move--they had my new address and MAC address and it was set up properly, the modem just plain crapped out.
