Ice cleats or grippers

I've used the ones Fish Toys is talking about. They're good if you've got the money. Also, avoid the cheap types I've seen that have cleats only in the middle (hollow) of your foot. When you're walking or pulling something on ice, it's the ball of your foot and toe that bears down and digs in, and that's the most important place for cleats to be. Longer cleats work better in shallow snow, shorter cleats are more comfortable to walk in but clog easier with snow.

My advice...spend the cash on the ones with the link above. I have tried many and found a similar style to those linked above that have never let me down. The cheaper ones are just that-CHEAP. Those above will be the last pair you ever have to buy if taken care of, I know that mine get a coating of rust penetrator a couple of times a season...it really helps maintain them!

Check the link out above by Fish Toys and you'll see the best grips available.

These were standard issue for loggers working on ice. Heavy duty industrial grade. Comfortable, easy on and off, and lightweight. Those loggers depended on them and used em hard day after day.

Good Stuff.

Talk about a dream to walk with when on slippery ice. I absolutely swear by them.

They are the best, cleats under the full foot makes thing safe / I started using them or that type years ago when the straps didn't hold - I modified / the new ones have good straps ................. easy on/off if you can bend over ~~~~~~~~~~~~ stay off that Ice Cream Backwater Eddy - LOL.

Hey Wables,
just wanted to clarify that the Ice grips Fish Toys linked to are very comfortable to walk in and you feel very solid on slippery ice.

Those Ice Grips are the real deal.

I have been under the impression that the above mentioned cleats won't fit my size 13 Ice Kings? Is this actually the case? I may be talked in a set this year if they fit. I have been using screws in my boots for a couple years, and I'm always looking for a better way...

[Note from Rick: Wables, they will fit your boots just fine. CLICK HERE and follow the directions to size your boots up for the proper Ice Grips for your boots. Isn't it time you finally got a good pair that will last you for years of lightweight, heavy duty industrial use and did I say..EASY on and off!!]

I've said this before, but I'll say it again, they are hands down the most impressive piece hardware I've ever purchased for ice fishing. And, that's saying quite a bit if you look at their relative simplicity. They're comfortable, heck, you don't even know they are on. They don't clog with snow. They don't slide around on your feat. And, they will puncture the bed liner on your truck if you're dumb enough to walk on it while wearing them. smile.gif

I can't think of a way to improve these things. There are some copies around now, but, do yourself a favor and buy it here. Think about it, it really is to your benefit. I guarantee you'll be pleased.

Ray,

I know what you mean about them being comfortable. Drove home a couple of times last year with them still on. Kind of hard on the carpet in the truck.

Ice grippers are the real deal. I have yet to talk with someone that has them and doesn't think that they're the best.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
