markzeke
I have a neighbor kid with muscular dystrophy and I am building him a custom fishing rod. I am almost done with it when I realized he probably doesn't have the strength to cast very far, or the strength to real in a larger fish. He will be turning 8 in July and I have been looking for some kind of electric/battery powered reel for him but all I can find are larger saltwater reels. I have checked with gander mt and scheels and they have never heard of any type of smaller freshwater electric reel. I would appreciate any help if someone else has been in the same situation or has heard of such a reel. Also, the kid is in a motorized wheel chair so standing and casting is out of the question. Clemmy http://www.fhnbinc.org/adap_%20gear.htm That's the first thing I thought of when I read the title of the thread. A friend of mine from work has been working on this for 3 years and reel manufacturers need to know that there's a real need for something like this to get them to start mass producing them and get the cost down.
