Where do you mount your anchor rope?

Slyster

Question

I've always had my anchor (on a crank system) on the tip of the boat.. now that I am going to install a bout mount motor... where and how should I put the anchor?

Do most of you (with fishing/bass boats) just tie the rope to the boat somewhere and hand toss it over and hand reel it in?

I do the same as Harvey Lee, only the rope is wound on a small electric cord reel, the wind up kind, rope, reel and anchor are stored in a compartment.

Sounds like its time to go cattin' and I can let you throw and lift my (2) 25lb Richters. smile.gif

In the river, I would "prefer" to have a bow cleat on my boat but I don't. I do have a cleat on each side, about 4' back from the bow, these actually work pretty well for anchoring. If there is wind, thats where I would tie off to and then maybe toss another one out the back as well.

I let an anchor out the back of the boat and tie it to a cleat in the back. Thus the bow points towards whatever structure I am casting at. I have a butt seat in the bow and I can stand or sit to cast with the wind. This helps a lot if you do a lot of worm fishing (which I know you do) and need to watch your line closely. Casting into the wind or with a cross wind makes it difficult to keep the slack out of the line because of the wind drifting the line.

Deitz how do you fish your boat in these winds with no anchor? Maybe it's the difference between transom and bow mounted motors.. but with my 55 transom I can hardly do a thing without securing the anchor first.

Sly a big factor is boat size. Dietz's boat is slightly larger and carries more mass than yours. The wind will be less of an issue with this. The smaller boats get tossed like pop cans in the wind (speaking from experience)

I have a 72 lb MinnKota Maxxum, and can hold in any wind thrown at me so far... If its that windy, I will often find a different spot to fish. Bass boats do sit lower in the water and are heavier and like stated above this post.. they dont get pushed around by the wind as much.
