Spiderwire Stealth

The only complaint I could make about this line is that it frays easier than other lines I've used in the past. I didn't personally have much trouble with untangling backlashes, and it has a lot more knot strength than most other superbraids. It's also really easy to cast with. It should work well for you.

Hiya -

Stealth isn't bad line really, but as someone else mentioned I did think it tended to fray fairly easily. I've been using Cortland Master Braid the last couple seasons and prefer it by far over Stealth. Best superline I've used frankly...

Cheers,

I dont really care for it. I had it spooled for free when I purchased a couple Abu reels at the shows this winter. It will be coming off and going on trolling reels.

Even a simple backlash seems to really dig in with this line.

Tuff Plus or Cortland Masterbraid will be on all my reels.

I'v never used Stealth. But I've heard a lot of the same things as were already stated here. After using Tuf Line exclusively for the past 12 years or so, I spooled up a reel with Cortland Masterbraid this year. After minimal use so far, it seems like great line. The early verdict is telling me that all of my reels need to be spooled up with Masterbraid. Great stuff.

How does the Cortland Masterbraid do at repeling water? I have been using Tuf line, really like it, but it just retains too much water. Am looking to switch to a line that doesn't do that.

Bret,

That's by far the biggest difference I've noticed in the Masterbraid as compared to Tuf Line...much drier. When I've been casting with Tuf Line for a number of hours, my boat floor is drenched. It looks like it was raining wherever I was standing. I was using my reel that I have spooled up with Masterbraid for about 5 hours straight the other day. My boat carpet was as dry as can be. Huge difference.

Muskycrazy, so is your line digging into itself on the spool? If that's what you're seeing, heavy baits like you're using shouldn't be doing that to the line. So I would definitely say the line would be the main reason if that's what's going on.

Its not the line digging in . Thats what I was hoping for , its more like the thumb bar is not releaseing all the way everytime . Have you ever heard of these big bladed bucktails doing that to a reel ?

Thanks Aaron.......I think that I will definately give the Masterbraid a try on my new reel. If I like it that much, all the reels will get it. Thanks for the heads up!!

I've been using Abu reels for the past 18 years and that's actually a fairly common problem that I've had with mine. I couldn't tell you what the problem is or what the fix is. I just know it's always a simple fix when I take my reels in to get looked at. I really don't think it has anything to do with the baits that you're using.

Bret, from my experience so far, I don't think you'll be disappointed at all with the Masterbraid.

I have someone local that does repair work on reels. I'll take them into him just for a good cleaning too if they need it. If you don't have anyone near you to do the work, you could always send your reels to Pure Fishing (Abu Garcia) in Iowa. They're very quick about getting them back to you. I've only sent a reel to them once. But I shipped it to them and had it back in less than a week.

I'm chiming in a bit late but I used spiderwire Stealth since it hit shelves and was always happy with it. You do have to make sure your base is down tight to help with backlashes but I I never had a line failure using it.

Last year I tried out the Suffix braid for Flatheads and was very happy with it. So put it on a few musky rods and pike trollers and the outcome was great. I now run Suffix on everything and I have not had one bit of trouple with the heavy stuff but the light braid on the walleye rods tends to tangle easy for some reason. Remember my rods are in the hands of clients every day, and some of them have never seen a baitcaster before so no complaints on the Stealth or Suffix line.

I also run power pro on all of my reels except my ultralite. I have never had a problem with it. The reason that I don't use it on my ultralite is that the line is very limp when you get down to lighter test weights and I find that I have problems threading slip bobbers with it. But this is not a problem with the heavier line that I use for pike, muskies, walleye, bass, and cats.
