Hendrick Penalties

I really dont understand why it is so diffucult to ask a tech person if what you are planning on doing is ok. They wont ask because they choose to sneak it by.

TRY TO SNEAK IT BY? Its the Front Fender right on top of the car, you couldn't sneak that by a blind field mouse let alone a NASCAR inspection... They weren't trying to sneak anything by because the car fit the templates meaning, by every other race standard we've known, it was legal.

Jeff

If its ok to do it, then why would all teams not do this? I would think that if it has a good aero effect on the cars handling that all teams would do this if its ok. confused.gif I have to believe that all teams have the skill with a wind tunnel to see the gains if any they would recieve and yet only two teams were caught doing it. I'm not trying to pick on the Hendrick cars and will admit that I dont care for them.

Harv, most teams are not smart enough to totally understand what every aspect of a car does and how they all interreact with each other. Do you really think that Hendrick wins all those races by building cars that are the same as every other chevy team? No, their cars are different, somewhere, somehow.

What the article is saying is that what was once legal practice with the cars is no longer legal. You used to get to go thru the tech line many times until the car was legal, (in the eyes of THAT inspector) now you get one shot at it to make everybody happy.

About asking the inspector if you can do something or not is a sure fire way to lose any advantage you might have gained over the competition. When DEI was killing everyone on the plate tracks do you think they pulled the inspectors over and said "hey, this is what we are doing here, what do you think, and by the way, lets keep this between us." I don't think so.

If they dont want to find out that what they are attempting to do is legal or not, then they need to take the penalty and so be it.

I will agree that tech can be difficult but, I personally cannot believe that NASCAR just makes up new rules as they go. If that were the case, every team would be having many issues with tech and just not a select few teams.

I dont know what DEI did in regards to plate tracks to gain the advantage that they once had. I do know that if they were caught being illegal, they would have to be penalized if they crossed the line.

The rules are the rules and all teams need to play by them or you will have a real mess. Maybe NASCAR is sometimes vaque with some gray areas but if you chose to go into that area, one should be ready to be penalized. I have to believe that all crew chiefs or teams know when they are close to crossing the line.

On a smaller scale there are areas that we could mess around in with the rules in our modified but, we chose to run by the exact rules and hope we can win with chassis set up. All I'm saying is if you get caught going beyond the written rules or assume that what you have or are planning on doing is somewhat gray, you might need to pay the piper.

I realize that Hendrick Motorsports is going to try and find every little advantage that they can and should do that. But, once every so often, you will go to far for whatever reason and it will cost you.

I wondering where we might be today if there were no penalties for gray areas? There would be no gray areas.

It's called IROC and it sucks. Ask all 9 people that watch it and they'll tell you the same thing.

This reply is not directed at anyone in particular.

Many replies in this thread see the fines and

suspensions levied against the hendricks organization

as gloom and doom and the eventual demise of NASCAR.

Other organizations have been fined and suspended, took

their lumps and moved on. Perhaps the "whiner" label

attached to the hendricks organization is well deserved.

In other words, thus ye protest too much ??

Time to move on.
