ReelTimes
I have a 1998 Lund Fisherman and it has some scuffs and scratches, etc. I certainly don't have to but after looking at the price of new boats, and have thought about having mine repainted. If I did repaint, I would like a paint job of the same quality as when it came from Lund, with new stickers, emblems, etc. Does anyone know of someone who does this work? Is it cost prohibitive or even a reasonable thing to consider? I'm sure Lund would do it but imaging its costly. Thanks for the info.
CatManLee
I know someone who got his boat painted at a local car dealership. He had the sides painted by the car dealership and bought the Decals from a screen printing shop. I'm not sure exactly how much it cost exactly, but I do know it wasn't too bad. If you think about it, the area painted isn't very big, so it really should be fairly reasonable anywhere you go. As far as how well the paint will hold up...I don't know? Be careful and I'm sure it'll last a good while. Just a thought, but you might want to check with some local body shops and auto dealers about it, as well as a screen printing place. Valv
I would call them and ask, it doesn't hurt.....I bet if you prep boat and take it to them they will do it reasonably, you can apply decals and pinstriping yourself to save $$
Steve Bakken
Make sure that you ask alot of questions to make sure they're going to give you a good job. There are alot of tricks and things to watch out for when painting aluminum. It's very fickle and cannot be treated the same as steel. In the 20 years that we've been painting boats, we've seen alot of boats come into our shop with peeling paint from a body shop. Please understand that I'm not cutting down body shops, there are many great ones out there. I'm just saying that you want to make sure that they have experience in prepping and painting aluminum. Also make sure that they'll warranty their work. Most places won't warranty anything that will be submerged in water.

Borch
Been there, done that with the peeling paint and here I am again considering getting mine painted again. I'm tired of putting up with the peeled paint as I'm wanting to sell it and it's a major barrier.
lenny4077
My neighbor repainted his '84 lund himself and it looks brand new, he did a very good job with it. I don't know the exact figures, but he was looking at the paint directly from Lund at ~$300/gal. and it took about 2 gallons to do the whole boat. He ended up getting some other paint for about $100/gal. I don't know the details, but he also sandblasted the whole boat, put down a coat or two of primer, and then did the finish coat and sealer. The decals you can get from Lund directly or look on hsolist. He had someone else do the decal stripes and the only problem he has had is where the vent for the gas tank is. Some gas leaked out and the detail paint ran. It sounds like the guy who did the detail stripes didn't put a sealing coat on.Lenny
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Quote: I'm sure Lund would do it but imaging its costly. Actually, Lund may be your best bet. A friend had them re-do his Tyee and it was just like the factory (because it was!). Call them and they can shoot you a price. Good luck.JD
Minnesota Fisher
I agree, check with Lund. My brother-in-law has a Pro-Sport, I believe it's a '97 model. I don't know the exact details, but Lund just repainted it at no cost to him.
