Central Bassman
In the dog days some summer fishing can be great. I have had some of my best days on the water when it is HOT and sunny!!!! What are some tips and trick you guys use to help keep fish alive in your live wells???
Eric Wettschreck
Run the pump often or put ice in the live well to keep the water cool and fresh.
Scott K
if I know I am going to keep fish, and I will be on the water all day, I will fill the live well from my garden hose then just run the airiater. But I dont normally keep fish so not a big problem for me.
wishing for walleyes
Put a timer on the livewell pump.My timer is 1 minute on 2 minutes off.
Metzie
I use a cooler without water and frozen milk jugs. The fish will keep fine for over 24 hours if needed.
Daze Off
I use that additive when the weather is really hot and it works very well. Except I don't have recirc so I have to continuously cycle new water in so have to add more powder regularly (or ice for that matter).Daze Off
TKO_PUNCH
Bring a cooler 1/2 full of ice and then put the fish in a garbage bag over the ice. This is what we do in Canada and it works very well
Central Bassman
Daze Off-- Do you add Please Release Me to yours live well?? Anyone else use additives like that??
slick814
ice in the livewell... keeping the water cool helps keep the fish lively and obviously alive. I just bring a cooler with 10lbs or so of ice & add as needed. Recirc the water in the livewell from time to time helps too.
Daze Off
If the conditions call for it I do - but since I repeatedly circulate new water in to the livewells I have to repeat it in order to be effective. I think that is the name of the stuff but have to confirm it tonight when I get home. Stuff is expensive so only use it during tournaments in hot weather.Daze Off
basmastermatt
When the water gets warm it has a hard time holding oxygen and this product helps a ton. I also agree with the ice, ice helps cool the water, in turn that allows the water to hold more oxygen and also slows the amount of oxygen the fish is burning. Central Bassman
How does that U2 stuff work??
Daze Off
The powder stuff I use in the livewell on really hot days in addition to ice is called "Rejuvenade" and it must help because I have never lost a healthy fish. I have lost some that were hooked very deep but that was likely not related to water temp/condition.Daze Off
