Glow Devil Jigging Spoons!!!!

Recommended Posts

You may be saying "I have never heard of the Glow Devil Jigging Spoon". Well, you have if you fished with me or have talked ice fishing with me.

The Glow Devil Jigging Spoon is the NEW name for what I was calling the Perch Jigger or Perch spoon last year. For 2003 Scenic Tackle has not only enhanced the Glow Devil Spoon with Blood Red Treble Hooks, but added additional Colors and Patterns.

I can't say enough about these spoons. They are my #1 choice when it comes to a winter spoon. I prefer the 1/8 ounce size but they are available in 1/4 ounce also. For 2003 they are available in other glow colors besides white. They are now available in Blue Glow as well as Red Glow. I have not had the opportunity to try the new glow paint but I am very anxious to.

The Glow Devil that I am the most excited about is one that I have been asking for over a year. An all glow spoon with one eye and a red treble hook. Just looking at that new spoon gets me ready to hit the ice running.

For those of you who did not try the Perch Jigger Spoon that I was so excited about last year, this is your chance to try them in not only perch but several other color combinations. The Glow Devil spoons fish fast and heavy for those of you who prefer the run and gun approach to ice fishing.

The Perch/Glow version that I fished most of last year worked excellent on Winnie, Leech, Mille Lacs, Red and Lake of the Woods. Finding a spoon that worked equally well on all those bodies of water truely made me a better fisherman. Scott Steil

I don't know where else they are sold other then they are made by Scenic Tackle and Rick says they will be available on this site. Supporting this site is important it keeps it free for all of us who enjoy it.

I don't know what it is about this spoon, but when the Perch/Glow spoon was working so good last year and there were limited quanties of these available, my parter tried every perch/glow spoon ever made I think and nothing worked even close to as well as these. Again, I prefer the 1/8 ounce size-they come with a slightly oversize treble hook for extra hooking power, so you don't have to worry about upgrading your hooks after you buy them. They come ready to fish, even for picky guys like me. Scott Steil

I just recieved my order tonight! I now have 3 doz 1/4oz and 3 doz 1/8oz of these Glow Devil Jiggers. Can't wait to get out and use them!!

I can vouch that the paint quality on these jigs is far superior to any jig I have ever seen! These will really "wear" well and I think ScottS can vouch for that too!

Can't wait to try them out this winter on the big pond!

Is that the spoon that you got pictures of me and adam, slamming wally's on Mille lacs with? All I remember is that red eye on it. If it is..... I'll put a vote in for it. I think the ratio was 5:2 wink.gif

That may be the spoon!! See-they even work for guys that don't know what they are doing grin.gif
LOL

Just a joke there- Flyingfish and Bigguns3 are excellent ice fisherman, really put in their time on the hard water and have some dandy fish to show for it.

I think the time you are referring to (when we got the nice pictures) we were using Angel Eye Jr.'s I started using the Glow Devil's in January.

I have two things to say:

ScottS is one of the best Ice Anglers you will ever see. He is the current Ice Leaders Challenge Event Champion. He won 2 out of 3 events and took the Championship going against some mighty fine Ice Anglers.

He claims he will be attending the ICE Series this year to help people learn more about ice fishing.

If ScottS says the Glow Devils are hot items, then we should all take that to the bank. He's pretty finicky about what he uses.

That being said, I will be picking some up this afternoon. Because of ScottS endorsement, I will make them available here as well.

I'll let you know when they are available for viewing here.

For now, they are only available via the Internet here.

I'll let you know when they are available elsewhere.

Yes, I can vouch for the paint, I still haven't chipped it. I have no idea how it is applied but you can't get it off!

Did you get all the Perch/Glow color spoons Grabs? You should see the new colors! Pretty exciting. Scott Steil

I'm not done yet, but hopefully this evening they will be available to order.

Pherris,

I have had my best luck tipping these spoons with just the head of a minnow or by using wax-worms with them.

I like to tip the lure with my bait then drop it to the bottom. Watch your locators. If you see a fish come up to meet your lure hold it just above the mark. The curve in the spoon design makes it very easy to read on your locators.

If you do not see a fish come to meet your lure let it go all the way to the bottom and then raise it off the bottom and twitch it a couple times then pause. Lift approx 1-2', twitch, pause and then drop it back to the bottom and begin again. While twitching you are simply teasing the fish. Often times the fish will hit these spoons on the pause.

Good Luck
Jeff

There is no one best way to fish the Glow Devil. For walleye I prefer to use 1/2 of a shiner minnow. Usually it is the head half but now always. Using 1/2 a shiner prevents a lot of those short strikes that just kill tournament fisherman.

For perch and crappie, the best way I have found is a whole crappie minnow. Again, with the smaller minnow you prevent a lot of those short strikes.

I use the action of the jigging spoon to attract the fish but suprisingly a lot of the hits come when the bait is in the neutral position or just hanging there. This is where your electronics come in. The AZ mode on the FL-18 seems to be made for this type of fishing. You can see the fish down there now you just have to get him to bite. Last year the neutral or dead presentation seemed to be the ticket to get those finincky fish to bite in the dead of the winter. We all know how tough it can be after first ice, I have found the Glow Devil to be the ticket to getting those mid season walleye to bite.

I have talked a lot about the neutral presentation, but don't worry, when the fish are turned on and they are actively hitting during the jigging presentation, you will have a blast!!Scott Steil

Spikes. I just can't say enough about using spikes as opposed to Uralarve or Waxies. There alot tougher and seem to stay alive on the end of a hook much longer. I seem to have my best luck when putting 3 on my hook. I bought one of these spoons last year (or one that looks just like it. I can't remember the brand name of the one I bought, but looks the same as the picture) and used it for Walleye, worked great. Save yourself a couple of bucks and by the card instead of one at a time like I did.

When using minnow heads I run that barb of one hook of the treble hook into the minnows mouth and up thru the hard part of it's head. This method seem to hold bait a little better. If the fish are real aggressive or my hands are cold, imagine that in MN, I run the hook from under the chin up thru the head.

When using whole minnows I like to hook two of the hooks on the treble lightly thru the back of the minnow so that the minnow hangs below the hook. This method makes the minnow fight to stay upright when the spoon is jigged which often times attracts fish.

When using wax worms or such I like to place 2-3 on the front facing tine of the treble. Front facing would be the tine that sticks straight up when the bait is laid flat. For some reason this seems to make a difference on both the Glow Devils and the Angel Eye Jr’s.

If I am fishing a live whole minnow I just hook it through the lips. This gives the minnow a lot of action.

If I am fishing 1/2 half a minnow, I hook the minnow a little deeper, trying to catch the tougher portion of the head with the hook. It is important not to hook the minnow to deep or your jigging action will cause the minnow to turn to the side and it will not hang vertical. Scott Steil

DL Kurt,

Glad you got your kit already and are happy with it. Those red hooks I think should put more fish in your bucket this winter.

Good Luck,
Jeff

Jeff, Scott, Anybody,
those bright Glo-Red Glow Devils look very good.

Is there a particular situation or lake type you think they will work best in or are they good for most situations?

I'd like your opinions/recommendation for URL Crappies, LOW Walleye/Sauger, and Mille lacs Walleye/Perch as well.
