If you like to fish for walleyes, pike, lakers, even jumbo perch, the Angel Eyes are the way to go.

If you like to fish for crappies, perch, walleyes, and sauger the Angel Eye JR's are.

The size of the forage in your lake will also have a bearing on it is well. If you have larger minnows in your lake, then the Angel Eyes, smaller=Angel Eye Jr's.

I didn't know the song was on radio! I was in my shack and I hear my buddy singing it in house next to me. He said he heard it on the radio. I just happened to be using one at the time. SO I let him see the famous minnow. Then he really broke out in song.

Well with all this talk about angel eyes I might just have to buy some. Do i need both the glow and the regular ones? Is there a certain color that works good for crappies and walleyes or does it depend on the lake you fish?

The color is not the most important thing. The action of the spoon is.

The color or glow does help in certain situations. Lake clarity, depth, natural light, etc help determine which color/glow patterns may work better than others.

The simple answer to your question is "it will vary from lake to lake and light available which colors will work best".

Often times there are several ways to chose a color. Color may be used to match the natural food in the lake or simply may be used to attract the fish. In darker or stained waters the glow often times will attract much better. In the clear water the color or shine may be just enough to attract “Jaws”. Often times fish will simply be attracted to shiny objects.

My favorite color choice if I had to choose one would be the glow/pink. I have done best on this color in the past.

Bigguns. I like how you claim to let your buddy "see" the Angel Eye. Gets expensive for him when he wants to "use it".

Good Luck

I picked up an assortment of the Angel Eyes jr. and several of the regular size. I have not had the chance to try them out as of yet, I just hope that they work near as well as everyone brags them up to be smile.gif

I plan on being on Vermillion on Sat morning, gonna give them a try then. Hopefully I won't be disapointed.

Multifaceted lure finishes up your odds under the ice.
By
Ed “Backwater Eddy” Carlson

See food, track food, eat food, this is a predatory fish’s main game plan is essence. Lure selection is an intricate part of this, “See me, find me, eat me game”, that we anglers wish to interact with under the ice.

Any color or monochromic reflective material can produce flash somewhere in the light spectrum. The trick is what part of the spectrum will work the best to trigger a fish in the conditions you are fishing at that time.

On stained or murky waters luminescent lure finishes often up the odds in your favor as they offer a constant source of light. They produce flash that attracts a fish and as they settle the luminescence retains it positive light reflective characteristics holding the fish’s attention.

Monochromic silver or copper finishes used in conjunction with a luminescent finish may further up your odds. These combinations of finishes allow a lure to covers a wider cross section of the light spectrum during a wider variety of light conditions. While the color may retain the overall profile of the lure for the predator to track, the flash produced by the chromatic finish will reinforce the attraction even further. I have yet to find a lure more capable producing this effect then the Angel Eye Minnow and the Angel Eye JR’s.

Multi layering finishes are useful target acquisition tool as they often hold a fish’s attention longer. By spanning the light spectrum with a multi-layered approach such as a luminescent and chromatic finish you will further increase your chances to connect with a fish on the prowl day or night.

Versatility and function combine to place you in the best position to fool the predator, beat them at there own game as it may. The flash they see, color or profile they respond to and track, if all smells right they feed.

The versatility of the Angel Eye Minnow and JR’s under potentially tough conditions has more then sold me on this concept. Consistently paying off big with more and bigger fish will do that for my clients and me, every time.

Great post Eddy.

I missed it earlier. You hit the sight attraction part of it very well.

For sound, the AE vs a rattle lure, the body, split rings and hooks working together on the Angel Eyes and Angel Eye Jrs. actually makes more noise then the rattle lures when jigged.

This is caused by the design of the blade and the type of metal it is constructed from.

Makes this a great murky water lure as well.

I am not at all afraid of recommending them because they work. Just a good solid lure with more bang for the buck. I can dig that!

This season I found they were the hot deal for catching Goldeye on rivers, my baitfish of choice for catfish. I go through a lot of Goldeye in a season, thousands of them.

Goldeye can be the fussiest darn critter in the water at times, plus hard to locate. Put it this way, I had plenty of bait all summer, the Angel Eye Jr's provided most of it for me.

Now I got a tournament-pro friend using them on handline trolling systems and it has been producing huge on rivers out East and West. That is another deal I plan to play with in 2003, handline trolling the Red River. We-We!

Good stuff Eh!

I am sure it has been covered already but...

If I place my order tonight for AE jrs and Glow Devil's how long before they are at my door? I am sold on them but timing might be key here.

Jeff - Will you be at the ice fishing show?

I hope all this praise for the Angel eyes is right. You all convinced me to order some. Ordered a card of the AE jr's. Now I need to find time to get out and fish.

well i'm a believer in angel eye spoons now. got out on the ice for the first time last night and caught a bunch of eyes on an angel eye spoon and a few on tipups... kept a limit of 14-17" and was a fun first outing with the spoon

I'm also a beleiver now! I ordered them on Tuesday got them today. Went straight to the lake and caught 9 walleyes (also had a 5 or so fall of at the hole) on the angel jr. pink and white glow. Great lure. Hopefully they'll hold up once the fishing starts to slow down.

Great lure!

Hey Rick;
I just want to thank you folks at FM for the fine site as well as offering some excellent tackle. I got back last night from a mid-week one day run up to LOW, what a day!! I started off using an AE jr in the glow blue.... never tried another lure, not even any old favorites. I even caught the same walleye 3x ( it sure looked like the same chewed minnow hanging from it's mouth ). That unique bend of the blade produces that fluttering action, a little slow to get back down, but the fish don' t seem to mind smile.gif.
I read a post awhile back asking Jeff B. to produce a size inbetween the two existng sizes.... will this be happening?? I'd sure be interested.
Thanks again for all of your hard work.

I was out fishing crappies and walleyes today.
Tried the angel-eye jr out today and it didnt do too bad. On the hammered gold i caught a 20" walleye! I didnt catch any crappies on the angel-eye tho. I also tried the chart/orange nothing and the red glow and nothing so i guess the gold is the color to go with.
