Why I go to the lake?

Thought we'd better start this one here.....
Here's a few of my pet reasons:

(1)Hard to beat a tip-up flag flying in
a crisp morning's breeze.

(2)Waking up to the sweet sound of a
rattle wheel going off late at night.

(3)Rubbing one's cold hands in front of a
woodburner stove(I have gone to gas now
after nearly burning down my shack)!!

(4)That wonderful crunching sound of the
snow and ice under my Sorels.

Lets hear some of yours...............

In no particular order other than how I thought of 'em.....

5) The feel of a fish tugging on the end of your ultralight rod

6)The sound your reels drag makes as a fish takes line

7)All the pretty lights on the face of your Vexilar

8)The flavor of brats cooked over your shack stove on a cold night

9) The beauty of the stars on a crisp, clear winter night

10) The rush you get when your tipup flag
pops in the air

11) Time with my kids

Who else????

1] the smile on their face when they get a fish that you spend 3 hours drilling holes.
2 watching a small lad step into a hole and thinking how cold it was, the first time you did it.
3 being the first one out to the rockpile and no holes cut any where..
4 just thinking about icefishing... grin.gif

It sure didn't take long for this to take off !! smile.gif
Pretty much the same reasons as in the summer...
To get away from phones, cell phones, pagers, and computers.......
I only work to put gas in my auger, minnows in my bucket, and Crown Royal in my mug wink.gif
Oh yeah, and a little LP is nice around January.....got those old bottles switched over yet ??

Geez. Thanks everybody for getting me even MORE impatient. WHEN'S the ice coming? I have a friend who once was in such painful ice fishing withdrawl during the off-season he threatened to auger a hole in his basement floor to see if there were any fish in the high water table below.

I guess the Jiffy/Strikemaster debate would take on a whole new feel then, eh?

But I guess my favorites would be:

1. Second flag going up while you're still pulling in the first 10-lb pike.

2. Big red band on the Vex that keeps coming up as you tease your jigging Rap until the thing it so mad it smacks the sucker.

3. The size of your child's eyes when the fish comes up through the hole.

1. Watching the screen on my vexilar and seeing a fish come off the bottom or into the cone.

2. Watching the bobber disappear below the ice.

3. Watching the fish come through the hole.

Doesn't get any better than that.
