I am thinking of buying a GPS... want it for fishing, and maybe even to use for hunting. Any advice would greatly help me out!

I run the Lowrance H2O, as do some others on this board. I have the MN Lakemaster chip installed and it works great. The mono display H2O can be had for $149 on sale. The Color version is much more.

I also just bought a Lowrance H20, but the color version. The additional color resolution makes the unit much more attractive and useful in my opinion. There are some online retailers that offer it for $50-$75 less than the sporting goods stores.

I liked the screen shots of the lakemaster chip better, but our lake was only included in the Navionics chip (which I bought).

I stored my boat outside up north and forgot to bring up my depth finders last weekend. The GPS was good enough to get me on the right depth contour and find fish! Well worth it and entertaining to boot.

The one I'm looking at is the Lowrence iFinder H2O color... since I know nothing about them think this one will do the trick? It's a gift for my boyfriend and I found one for $228.

As far as I know, the only way to get the lake depth contour maps is to buy them. Two options there, either Lakemaster or Navionics. Every year they seem to add more lakes. They typically sell for $100-150.

For more detailed street and land topographical maps you can buy the Mapcreate from Lowrance and download custom maps from your computer. Or buy Freedom maps for those not computer inclined.

Nice gift for a lucky boyfriend grin.gif

Good news is I think I can pull a discount on the map software (helps working for a major software company). I just wish there was a place you could download one or two maps at a time for a lower price than a whole region.

Yeah - he's lucky but I can use it too :-)
