H2O C hints

Iceseeker

Question

I have the H2O C and would not trade it. I do have a couple of questions though. can you find the distance between 2 saved waypoints? Also, can you save a waypoint by name rather than 001 and then rename it?

If anyone has the answer it will be fellow member of this information filled site.

Thanks to all,

Absolutely you can rename points. I dont have it handy, otherwise I would step you through it. Its not tough to figure out though, or get the manual out.

There is so much more I have to learn about what I can do with this thing. What a cool unit.

As with another thread discussing seeing it in bright sunlight, I sure wish it was easier to see during the day. Even with the backlight on, its not easy to read.

I dont have my GPS with me but I think this is how it goes:

Place the cursor on the first waypoint, then go to "Find

Distance" under the "Find" key (either that or the "Menu" key). then move the cursor to wherever you want and it will give you the distance, from that first waypoint, in a straight line. The distance shows up in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

For the waypoint name, you can go in and edit all your waypoints names, symbols, etc... by going to "My waypoints", again under the "Find" key. What you do is when the list comes up, hit enter, then the first waypoint on your list will be highlighted, then you can scroll down and select whichever waypoint you want to work with by highlighting it and pressing enter. then scroll side to side to "Edit Name".

you may have to switch to advanced mode if you already havent to do all this.

Going from memory here but, highlight the waypoint and press enter, I believe. Brings up the info about that waypoint. Select rename on the bottom and hit enter.

To find distance, hit menu, find distance, place cursor on 1st waypoint, hit enter, move cursor to 2nd waypoint.

As for the distance between 2 saved waypoints, there is an item on the menu (I think the first menu) named "Find Distance" and you can set your cursor on one waypoint and move it to the other and it will tell you the distance while drawing a red line in between. You may be able to do this same thing with the "navigate" feature but I really don't use that one much because it is easier to just zoom in/out and get from one spot to another that way.

As for the ?? on saving waypoints - I know of no other way to save a waypoint than have it be numbered and then re-name it afterward. Can use the "find" button immediately after saving and the first item on list will be something like "highlighted item" or something (which will be the waypoint you just saved) and hitting enter will take you to the screen to edit where you can rename.

Hope this helps....

As long as we are on the subject - has anyone with one of these units bought the screen magnifier? Is it worth having?

Thanks for info guys, I may not have been clear in the request. I am aware of the click and drag method for distance but I am interested in the distance between 2 different areas such as cities or lakes that are saved not just the area that you viewing.

I am also aware of the rename menu but was wondering if you save a waypoint from the menu it saves as 001 and then you have to rename it. Can it be saved as the name indicates?
