0 Scott K
The driveby wirng throttle does have a slight hesitation on accel, and is considerd normal, but if you are concerned bring it in while there is warranty!
0 MattWtech
yea but you shouldnt notice a difference, the only difference is the pcm doesnt have to play catch up, its telling it what to do.. under some circumstances if it doesnt want to give hard throttle it wont, but you really shouldnt notice a difference. how bad is the hesitation? ps its hard to diagnose without feeling it so bare with us

0 Scott K
If all you are talking about is a slight hesitation, then this is normal, ford has a pcm reprogram that does address this issue, but from my expierence it didnt help much! It has been a complaint to some people, but to others they just got used to it! If it is a little more extreme, then I would get it looked at by a dealer. 0 boatfixer
I have an appt again on Monday. I could best describe it as a "stutter". Most noticeable around 30 mph. The dealer even suggested a high perf programmer. Just remember to put it back to factory specs before I bring it in for service. But I guess I just wanted to know if anybody else has been through this. It's aggravating to have technology come so far today, only to have a silly problem like this. In the "good ol' days" a guy just advanced the timing or fattened up the idle mix a bit.
0 blakjack23
I have an '04 with the same 5.4 as you and I also notice a hesitation or stutter sometimes around the 30mph mark. I rarely even notice it though. I still love the truck!
0 boatfixer
Yeah, I like the truck alot too, I've switched to fords this past summer. I Had a Sub and a Sierra, both with the famous piston slap, GM is known for. Other than this annoyance, I am very pleased. I will more than likely install an Edge Evolution programmer, since this seems to be "normal". I'll give the dealer one more chance, and then pull the trigger on the Edge. Thanks for all the input guys.
0 Scott K
Just heads up on that programmer, most manufactures frown heavily upon people using these, ford included! If the dealer you brought it to recomended you to put one of these in your truck, they can get into some trouble for that. Im not telling you not to use it, but to use comon sense if you do. If you end up with engine damage or noise, or trans problems and ford knows you have one of these in your truck, you may have a hard time getting it waranteed! I know the people who sells you the programmer tells you that they cant void your waranty, but they can, I have seen it several times. And the programmer on gas vehicles, your not going to notice alot of change in power, or economy. If you buy one of them ask if your not satisfied in 2 weeks if you can return it, I bet you will return it, there isnt much difference.
0 boatfixer
Thanks for the heads up on that. The dealer said to return it to factory settings before any service. But the more I think about it, $500 to make a hesitation go away and lackluster results may just not make any sense. I know the programmer makers say they will improve across the board, but I haven't talked to any one who has accualy used it on a GAS engine.
