Hiddenbay
Hello,Any idea how it looks for ice out on Esox or the Manitou?
Outfitter17
I will have a better idea once we get through easter weekend. The snow and ice were melting pretty good early last week, but the temps have dropped and we have about 1 inch of snow on the ground and the weather channel is calling for cool weather through the weekend. jtnednem
What is the status for ice out on Manitou? What are our odds that ice will be out be May 3?
Down Deep
I'd bet none.
Outfitter17
I just got back from camp manitou and we had 28-32+ inches everywhere we fished. 95% of the ice is still tight against the shorelines. I would guess ice out to be somewhere around May 6-8 range.
jtnednem
I heard that the rain and the 50 and 60 degree weather have really sped up the melt, any truth to that?
superbee
It has sped things up, but the lakes will still be a week or so to open up I would guess. It should be open by May 1, that would be my guess anyway.
jtnednem
Anyone have an update on Manitou ice out?
superbee
The smaller lakes in the area are opening up, so the big lakes should be just a few more days. I will let you know what I see and hear in the next day or two.www.gatewaynorthoutfitters.net
cedarnarrowsguy
It's amazing how a few weeks ago, we couldn't imagine ice-out in early May this year, Mother nature has a way of catching up I guess. Thanks for the update superbee.
mskyfshntchr
A buddy said Barker's Bay emailed him yesterday....Stretch of the Manitou is open as is Barker's bay. Main lake still with ice...He thought it might be gone by the weekend...It is getting to be that time......
Outfitter17
Barker Bay is completly off concerning the stretch, I was up yesterday trying to get into Camp Manitou and it is still very stiff. Esox lake is open, but as soon as you get to the white juggs entering the stretch from esox there is about a foot of ice. I have moved all of the people we have booked for this upcoming weekend over to Happy Landing on pipestone lake. I am going to try to get back up to camp manitou on sunday or monday, but no earlier unless we get alot of rain and wind this week. It will be another 3-5 days after the stretch goes out before the main lake will go. If you are trying to get to barker, you won't get their until wed/thurs. next week.I talked to a pilot today and he said Pipestone is ice free except for a little ice in the northwest arm, clearwater should be open by wednesday. jtnednem
ice went out May 2nd. We were able to get up to the "Weather Station" Camp, and had a great outing. The Trout were hitting hard off shore, it was great. And for the record i would suggest the "Weather Station" it is a great resort.

SimilarIsland
Hey Outfitter17. FYI There's a "lose it or remove it" sticker on your boat from DNR in Alonghill - just so you know.
