MinnKota or Motorguide

I am looking to get a transom trolling motor for a smaller 14 foot boat. I think Id either go with a Maxxum, Vector or Motorguide Freshwater series one but which # of thrust would I need? What are the advantages/disadvantages of them?

I've got a 55# Maxxum on a 16 footer and it works fine. I'm very happy with the Maxxum, it seems like it runs forever between charges.

MinnKota has never let me down. I don't know much about the other one. Might be a Ford vs. Chevy question or a Lund vs Alumacraft.

I'd go with Minn Kota because of their Maximizer technology, 3X steering, and composite shaft. You don't realize how important that composite shaft is until wind and waves blow you into a log with the trolling motor down :-|

Plus, they're made in MN, not sure where Motor Guide is made.

I have a 55# Minn kota transom and would highly recommend it, however I have never used a motorguide.

I have a 55# Maxxum as well. Very nice.. really does go a long time. Pushed my 17 miles once as measured by my GPS. (14' boat so it moves along pretty fast)

I wouldnt need it to go fast just so I can go along the shoreline and cast crankbaits and jigs slowly. I might troll with it but not real fast. Can the Maxxum go really slow and is adjustable little by litte faster after that?

We were on full since we were sightseeing.. but the Maxxum's have the infinite twist.. you know.. no clicking. you can go SO slow you don't even know your moving unless it is glassy calm.
