Muskie Guru HSO Pro Staff Rob Kimm is there right now, Walleye and Mille Lacs top gun Pro Staff Director Paul Waldowski will be there tomorrow and a few of us HSO/FMers Staff will help man the Anglers Legacy booth over the weekend starting Friday afternoon working on getting more new and young anglers out fishing.

Here is a bit off their site:

Anglers’ Legacy campaign, aims to collect 50,000 pledges this year.

It’s our responsibility as individuals and organizations to help people discover, share and protect the legacy of fishing, So take the Pledge and take someone fishing, and we can leave the sport and the resource in good shape for generations to come.

Creating Momentum

Anglers’ Legacy continues to gain momentum, as nearly 200 pro-anglers and fishing celebrities have already endorsed the program and producers of fishing radio and television shows are rapidly signing on. A recent survey of more than 700 avid anglers shows the campaign is working - nearly one third of those who have seen the Anglers’ Legacy campaign message have already taken someone new fishing.

Get connected to the cause and Take the Pledge! To become an Anglers’ Legacy Program Partner.

Stop by and see us won't you??

Hiya -

Thanks for putting this up, Rick.

Angler's Legacy really is a great program. Recruiting new anglers - young, and old - is the only way to make sure our sport stays strong in the future. In the 1970s, more than 40% of all Minnesotans bought a fishing license. Now it's under 30%.

The great thing is, all you need to do to get someone into fishing is take them. That's it. Research by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation has shown that if you take someone fishing once, it's a virtual certainty they'll go again. But if nobody takes them, they won't start on their own.

All you need to do is pledge to take one new person fishing this year. That's it. There's no strings attached, nothing to buy or anything. Just promise to take someone new out fishing. And at the show, they're giving away some really cool fishing journals to the 1st 1,000 people that sign up. Signing the pledge takes about two minutes...

Now here's the challenge we've been given. I talked to someone from Shimano who was at the Bassmaster Classic in Alabama. They signed up 1500 people there. He challenged us to beat the Alabama number. I'd love to do so...

So stop by. There are two booths - one right next to the DNR booth (pick up your fishing license while you're there if you don't already have it...) and one at the Dan's Southside Marine booth. Stop by, say hello, and TAKE THE PLEDGE!

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

1500? That is a pretty low number compared to all of the people that head down to the sports show. Lets take the pledge and show them that Minnesota is serious about its fishing!

Thanks Rick,

This is a program that Appeldoorn's Sunset Bay Resort is going be getting involved with in his coming year. It is a great way to not only get children and others who have never fished fishing. But more importantly, teach these future fisherman the ethics of the sport!

Good luck at the show Rob and Paul!

Fish On!!!
