bhs91
Just got a 1995 jeep cherokee from my mother-in-law and it says that it has a tow prep package...What does that mean exactly?
0 Valv
It means it is pre-wired for trailer, it has a hitch and possibly a transmission cooler. Get a mechanic to check if it has the cooler to be sure (it will take 1 minute)
0 The_Duckslayer
I thought since it is a Jeep that meant it had them two little hooks that you see in the front of vehicles indicating that it was ready to be towed when it borke down. Just kidding... Have a good one././Jimbo
0 bhs91
No doubt that I share that opinion as well:) But the price of $0 (thank you mother-in-law!!), and it beats towing my boat with our van, made it worth a shot.Valv, I will have a mechanic check on the trans cooler as this was my biggest question. If it does not have one, how vital is it to have it. It has a 5.2 liter V8 and 90% of my trips are around to the brainerd area lakes with 2 long trips to I-falls for some fishing on Rainy. Thanks for the help and the joke, I think.BHS
0 The_Duckslayer
Yeah, it was a joke! That is a real good price for it though! Never turn down a gift like that! If you look under the hood at the radiator and see two tubes going into the radiator down on the side plastic piece you probably have a tranny cooler. I think that most vehicles do anymore. I pull my boat around in the summer with my GMC Jimmy and if on flat land I run normal and in the hilly areas I click the TOW/Haul to the on position. That basically makes it dang hard to ever get to OD and raises the shift points quite a bit. Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
0 Jeremy airjer W
Actually duckslayer, you described the standard option trans cooler. Every automatic transmission has one set up like this. A towing package will usually have an auxillary trans cooler. These are usually easily identifiable by the smaller "radiator" looking piece that is attached to the front of the radiator-a/c condesor. Some manufacturers also run a power steering cooler in front of the radiator which can look simular to a trans cooler.
0 Valv
No kidding, then others have the power steeting oil cooler ??? I never understood that, do we steer that much to be needing it?I had a '99 Chevy 1 ton diesel with: 1 radiator, 1 Turbo Intercooler, Oil cooler, aux. transmission cooler, engine oil cooler and power steering cooler....
