Marcum lx3 soft water

NW angler

Question

I am interested in using my lx3 for open water. What are your thoughts about simple ways to do this in a boat. I am not thinking about mounting it just wondering how it can be used off the side of a boat. Is it practical? Do you have a hard time locating your lure? Thanks for your thoughts.

If you are fishing in a alu. boat set the transducer directly on the alu. bottom, spill a little water on the spot where the trans. sets. I use ed my FL-18 like this a lot.

I plan on using mine in the boat also. I am going to install the high speed transducer and mount it on the console. I'm thinking that it will outdo the graph when it comes to vertical jigging for eyes.

I've used mine over the side of the boat, and had a boat with the high speed transducer. Unless you are using an ice fishing rod with the ice pack and transducer over the side, or fishing 25+ feet of water (so that the cone angle can get large enough) it is very hard, and uncomfortable to pick up your jig while fishing with a long rod. Same goes with the high speed transducer. It does however, work will with both types of ducers for marking fish, depth, and bottom density.

Do you just use the Ice Ducer on the bottom of your trolling motor?

I would imagion you need to get some type of cord extension then being it is so short?

If I were to buy a high speed ducer and since I have no bow mount trolling motor to mount a ducer on would I be able to pick up my jig when say anchored over a spot or slowly drifting?

I also have the LX3 on the bow, and put the ducer on the trolling motor, which is very simple, all you need are tie straps. I have had many units on my bow, but the LX3 is by far the best. its the same unit I use for ice fishing, so it gets used well.

I had thought about mounting the transducer on the trolling motor, but I think I may mount it on the transom. That way I can do some searching without deploying the electric. Anyone have pros and cons either way?
