Just broke the news to the ol' girl

Recommended Posts

With daylight savings taking place, I thought it'd be good that the ol girl and I have the conversation I have been contemplating for a couple of months now.

Yep, I climbed up in her. Batteries fully charged and ready to go she was. Just as clean as she was when I put her away last fall. There she sat - smiling with pride. I turned the music on and our favorite stations were still in the presets. We talked about the relationship of the years past and both agreed it has been fun.

The next part of the conversation was going to be hard. I knew it.

So, with all tact, I broke it to her. I said that I had been thinking of a new gal who was a couple years younger. In fact, it was one of her sisters. Her family heritage and traditions made great impacts on me. Yes she had the wheel, dual console and all, but I was going to the tiller. I stressed it wasn't that she was "bad". In fact, I told her I still loved her. She seemed to understand but again gave me the impression she never saw it coming.

I said I would make my final decision in the next 60 days or so. I promised her I would find her a new home that was just as good if not better. I even told her that if I could not find her a new home, I would not break up with her and I'd use her one more summer.

So, with patience, she has agreed to continuing the relationship.

Man o man. Somebody tell me they have had similar talks and in the end it was ok.....

You are not alone, I have had this kind of a talk before. Not as blunt as yours perhaps. As my sweetie is now 19 she looks good still. And after being led around by different rides she now has someone with the same matching colors. Am thinking of upgrading some of her features, not because they don't work but just because it might be time to freshener her up some. She still feels good in the waves and we have many a story to remember of the times we have been together. We both are comfortable with each other and I don't beat her, never have. I keep her clean and out of the weather and dogs are not allowed to paw her. I had another when I first got her but I could not give them both equal time so I let the other one go. I have turn down others just to be with her. She has rewarded me by bring me back in every time that we go out. To be honest I have not even looked at another for years now. We are both getting older every day but I think we will stay together. Good luck with yours.

After reading these first two posts I reflected on the last several years of my life and concluded a change had to be made. I presented a positive approach to her, highlighted all our good times together and in the end told her I wanted to be like the other guys and trade her in for a younger, sleeker model half her age... around 23 or 24 years old. Now that the bleeding has stopped and the concussion symptoms have receeded I realized you guys were talking about........ boats!

That was funny as heck, but there is some truth to that. I felt a little bad when I upgraded boats a couple years ago. I guess a guy can get a little too attached to his boat.

Echotrail- I'm still laughing at you.

WOW... I just figured out that I have had my boat for 10 years now! She is a 17 foot Lowe Big Jon with a 60HP Evinrude on her tail. Ya know, if I had the money I would trade her in on a Lowe Roughneck R2070VT in a hearbeat and never look back! However comma pause for effect I do not have the money and she treats me just fine so I will keep her. Boat motor and trailer are all 1989 Vintage. Still works like a champ though, and it is every bit as comfortable as the lawn chair you bring to set on that big wide open bottom! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
