Sinkers

Who or where is the best place to get good heavy sinkers for cat baits? Most stores only sell egg type and similar up to an ounce or so. I am looking for heavier flatter weights for this summer. Any advice?

Check out Cabela's online. They don't have any of the heavy lead in their spring master catalog but if you go online, you'll find that they have a variety of sizes and shapes that should suit any catman's needs. In the meantime, I'll have to check out this Catfish Connection that you speak of.

Lunker, My sons and I have a sinker mold for 2,3,4,and 5 ounce catfish sinkers that we bought at Cabelas. If you live near Minnetonka, maybe you could join us some time when we're molding them. At work a while ago, I was ordered to get rid of a five gallon bucket of scrap lead. It took me five trips to the truck. They didn't tell me where to dispose of it, but the dept. head is expecting some lead head jigs to come his way.

Lunker,

I used to have a little bait shop I got my sinkers from and they closed a couple years ago and I haven't been able to find there style sinker since. They sold a flot sinker so it didn't roll in the current like an egg sinker does. The pyramid sytle is the only one with flat sides that I can still find. I usually pick up my sinkers at any bait shop, but if in your search you find someone that carries flat sinkers please let me know.

Thanks

Bass Pro in fridley ususally has some pretty big weights. They are a little on the spendy side if I remember right but they have some in stock. They also have lots of the big 2/0 and larger hooks for big livebait.

I've started using the "slinky" sinker that the north shore looper fisherman use, for lindy rigging, sucker fishing, and now cat fishing. They're easy to make and you can put as much weight in as needed. No need to mess with making your own sinkers and such. Just get some hockey skate laces or parachute cord, melt one end, stuff as much shot in the other end as wanted, melt that end, put a swivel clip in one end and VOILA, instant sinker.

Yeah, I copied that post. I'm planning on making some of those to be used for other applications. I may try them for the river, but it seems they would have to be pretty long to get the weight necessary. Can't hurt to try.

SERIOUSLY! It was THIS big!
