metrojoe
Early on I was seeing a lot of birds, but the last few outings all my hotspots seemed to dry up. I might make it out again, but it'll be tough with the holidays.
charliepete2
I've really started to turn on the grouse hunting in the past few weeks. I'm not seeing the numbers I did in the early season, but with the cool weather the dog can work harder and he's been on fire the past few weeks. He's been locking them up tight on point and it makes for some pretty easy shooting.
jbdragon17
Going up way north for a last trip on the 28th. Hope to get the dogs on a few more birds.
WAG416
I had a great hunt right after the last snowfall we had. I got 3 grouse the other day. Put the dog on those fresh tracks and had a blast(no pun intended). I dont remember the last time i've actually seen that many birds. The earlier part of the year seemed a bit slower.Hoping for another couple days like that before the end of the year.

sachem longrifle
I have seen plenty of low and high cycles in the grouse population. Every time we have a first year in the start of an up cycle, we see alot of birds early then almost nothing late in the season. Alot of the young birds have been shot or killed by raptors and other predators. I have noticed this again. the good news is if the cycle is on schedule, there will be even more birds than this year next fall.
gurkster
I was out in the Askov area a few days ago. A friend and I got one, 11 flushes. We also saw several of the birds in the trees (or flush from them). Some flushed to far ahead, others to thick, others just plain missed - we got the one. Nice hunting them late like that. brittman
With the lack of snow across the pheasant range I decided that heading an hour or two north is better than 3 hours west or south. Two grouse trips over the past 10 days have been very productive. Yesterday moved 8 birds in about 2 hours. 2 shots - 2 birds. They are grouped together. Lack of snow, November like temps ... it does not get any better than this I too look forward to moving back to hard-core grous'n instead of pheasants as the population rebound in the next 3 - 4 years. huntnfish
I am going to go out and give it one last shot. I have had good luck this year with grouse. You can tell that they are in the upswing. I have never hunted them this late in the year so it could be interesting. It will be nice to get out in the woods one last time and then on to the ice for the evening bite. It really doesn't get much better than that. Troutchief
Heading up to Winnie over new years for some fishing and maybe some grouse hunting, just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for some nice walking around the williams narrows resort! It would just be nice to hit the woods with my six month old golden retriever/gorden setter puppie. Thank you!
