Fuel Pump in '90 chevy truck?

Bobb-o

Question

my fuel pump went out on me just as i was getting back from Red Lake last night (the triangle reaching out and getting it's revenge) I know this is gonna be a pain to do, so i am looking for advice on which way is easier cuz i have heard both ways. Would it be easier for me to take the bed off or to drop the tank out?

Taking the box off and moving it back is definatley the way to go on a newer truck. The straps on a '90 might need to be replaced if you take it down with out removing the box.

One thing is for certain. The lines from the sender are more than likley going to twist and break. Even with using a line wrench on the flared fittings. I think they are designed to break. Because if you look at a new sending unit you can see little indentations directly behind the flare nuts. A new sender will be very expensive so check out getting an aftermarket sender if needed.

Be sure to replace the pulsator if it's has one, and the strainer sock too. Also a new inline filter so the new pump do't have to work it's behind off pumping through a semi-clogged filter. Good luck!

Seriously?

I can drop a tank in any newer chevy truck in about 10 to 15 minutes without breaking the nipples off the module. I think you union boys need to get crackin'!! grin.gif

Hey bobb-o, Even if you do get the lines off the hanger assembly without breaking them pay particular attention to the four pin connector that connects the fuel pump and fuel level sending unit to the hanger assembly. If the pin that supplies power to the pump is discolored in any way replace the hanger!!! Luckily I found this out after the third fuel pump I replaced on the same s-10 blazer within a month. Thankfully the third one did not work at all after I installed it. Further investigation revealed the burnt pin on the hanger. Replaced the hanger and all was good. After that one I inspect them all thouroughly, and have found quite a few that look suspicious!!!!
