03 silverado spedometer ?

fish2live

Question

i have a 03 silverado and the spedometer is acting like it is sticky when i am speeding up. last night it quite working all together until i came to a complete stop then when i started again it started to work but, still kind of sticky. my question is, is this a sign of a sensor going in the rear end or could it be something else. thanks in advance

The sensor for the speedometer is on the (outside) of the transmission. Often, if the output speed sensor is bad it will affect transmission operation. If the transmission is working ok, the problem is likely in the speedometer head, circuit board (cluster), or possibly the computer.

And would likely trigger the check engine light.

My favorite test to use on these is the "smack the dash" test. If it starts working after a hard smack on the dash right above the cluster there is a good chance the cluster is bad.

I have an 04 and had the same issue. I took it in and they said the "cluster" went bad. I think that is what they said it was. If not it was something that sounded like that. They replaced it and all is well now. When mine went bad the turn signal light on the inside of the truck went out also. I have not had an issue other than that and it has not gone bad again. Its been about a year and a half.

well i just got my truck back from the dealer and it was the cluster.i was very impressed by the service. the service manager really did not have to anything because the warrenty does not cover this item but with no questions asked he took it and had to outsource the work to a chevy dealer to do the work because they do not have the equipment to program them. he said they would pay for it and even gave me a rental to get me around in the mean time.

if in the market for a vehicle give apple ford of lakeville a try.
