Tica Cetus reel question

larryz

Question

I purchased a Tica Cetus reel online from Thorne Brothers that looks to be a very nice reel. When it was delivered, the reel box had a warning label on it. Warning This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer etc.

What's up with this? On a fishing reel!!!

Could be a warning for lead. They need to post it on a lot of items that are painted if painted outside the country. It could also be the chrome on the line guide, who knows as whacko as California is, it could be the petroleum products in teh reel grease. Blow it off! It's California for God's sake!

Good luck!

Larry,

Don't worry about it, we live in Minnesota, not California, you'll only get cancer if you use it in California. smile.gif I'm sure it's to cover their A$$ from a lawsuit if there happens to be lead and we all know Cali is the lawsuit capital of the world.

Oh,and my brother just bought that same reel from ThornBrothers and loves it. Excellent Reel!

Thanks for the replies, everyone. They do have made in China stickers on them, just like most everything that you buy these days. It was a little bit alarming at first. I didn't think of the idea that they can probably use paint with lead in it.

Thanks again!!

a lot of plastics contain lead to make them pliable. That is also why you see this warning on some plastic baits. Like mentioned before, the lead could be in the paint, the lubrication/grease, or on the plastic parts. My guess is the soft handle contains the lead.
