Alright, so today I finaly made it out on the ice. I had the new runners installed on my portable, some reflextic, some new lights, and a new heater. I was so excited to go that I realized that I didnt have a scoop along when I hit the channel, no problem turned around and drop the 1 block round trip back home grabed a scoop and headed back. That was just the first sign. I got to the landing, unloaded everything put my new cleats on and started out, so far so good. I get out to the spot and start to set up, realizing that I now have to unload everything because I set it all on top of the reflextic. No biggie. Good all set up, I put in my new Ice ancors, and attach them to my sled and that went off with out a hitch. I proceed to "Drill" my holes and the first one goes no problem, the second is a little tricky, and the thrid for the depth finder, well lets just say I have to make a return trip because the Auger decided to go for a swim, no matter how fast I tryed to catch up to it it wasnt fast enough, now my arm is totaly soaked and I havent even caught a fish and I realize i havent even turned the heater on yet mad.gif. After taking the grill off the heater and removing the Ice that I splashed on to it, I fire it up and tie on a Chubby, I managed to snag the bleeping thing several times and once my line managed to find the new blades I just installed on it. Yup the lake claimed one of my chubbys also. I then decided that I would use some of the older Airplain jigs to try and snag it, no luck.

I decided to give up on fishing for augers as the time frame for fishing for them is very short and switched gears and went after some sunnies and crappies, with a hope of a walter. I managed to chatch a conciderable amount of crappies on some new Little atom lures. Then it starts again, I hear a guy Yapping on his cell phone like its 20 feet away from him, no-one is with-in 200 feet of me and guess where this guy decided to set up ..Yup you guessed it 50 feet away from me. Alright thats fine I can....Is he, no hes not....Yup he is now chipping away at the ice with a rather dull chisle Im assuming, it takes him close to 10 minutes to get threw with the first hole. Then I hear a loud BANG! he opened up his suitcase portable and just let it fly, must of had some 1/4" plywood on it for the floor. The whole time hes still yackin on his cell phone. about 15 minutes after that hes finaly set up, the fish have started to show back up and I hear him say Alright see you shortly. Another guy shows up with a power auger. He walks out starts yapping with him and then they decided that they are not in the right spot. He packs the darned thing back up and moves so that now instead of being 50 feet to the right of me he is 50 feet behind me. Flops everying open again and then I hear the wondeful sounds of an auger that hasnt been treated right, pull after pull....no go I also hear the spud bar hitting again, great 1 hour till theirs no noise. Finaly I hear the sputter of the auger, and he tries to drill right away and it dies. they started it back up and let it Idel to warm up and I hear them yacking about how its going to be a great day for fishing. THey then start on the hole, there was 6-8 inches of ice, it took them close to 10 minutes to drill the first hole, If i would of had my hand Auger I would of went over and done it for them!

ERrr ...sorry to vent I figured someone else might of had a bad day on the water and might get some enjoyment out of this

I sure hope it goes better tomorrow, or the luck passes on to hovermn

You have to love the people that come out with chisels. They only seem to come out at prime time. I had one last weekend, but it was more like 30 feet. I don't think I have ever piled out of a house as fast as when I heard that chisel hitting the ice. I would have drilled him some holes for him, but with 3 inches it doesn't take long to make a hole and he was finished by the time I got my heart rate back to normal.

So, um...Did you loose my auger or the 4 incher? Could you find that spot again? Maybe we can use the camera to spot it and a rope with a hook or something...Hmmm...Magnet! I'll see what Harbor freight has. Wait! Grrr, I'll be up there before they're open. Eh, we'll figure something out. How's that for decisiveness!

I guess I shouldn't feel so bad considering what problems I had the first time out. Dang heater wouldn't work. Take it apart and gas would flow. Reassemble everything and nothing. Repeat about 15 times. Still nothing. Then it acted like it was going to work. Got flame. Ahhh. Time to fish....what? Yep, went out again.

Meanwhile my cell is ringing off the hook and my buddy who's 100 ft from me has his limit twice over and I haven't seen a blip on the locator.

Trip to Runnings and new heater and try again tomorrow.

ShawwnyB, Hey find someone with an aqua-vu and see if you can't get that auger back up, or I guess you could just keep fishing there and use it as a piece of structure! smile.gif Yep, let the games begin. First ice is always interesting with the incidents but I really like the week after Christmas when everyone is trying out the new houses, augers, rods tip ups ect! I have seen two power auger bits go down holes around that time of year, oops! forgot to tighten the allen screw and splash they go. Hope the rest of your trips go better and the neighbors are quieter!

So what if you can't afford an auger? I use a chisel simply because I don't have $350 to spend on an auger.

And, yes, i have tried hand augers, but they get dull so fast its not even worth it.

Alrighty back in from the mid moring fishing trip, managed to catch 1 auger bit with a magnet. It was a hand auger from Mora 30 bucks but, just incase I baught a lazer hand auger to replace it. I had it on the end of a Drill attachment and it basicaly sheared and went Ploop! Managed to see some northerns and a few walley but no takers, caught some crapps and sunnies and one bass

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
