I can only offer this advice - if you're using for ice fishing, think about getting battery operated rather than rechargeable. My rechargeables usually ended up dying before our weekend in sleeper houses are up. no place to plug in the charger.

of course, hard to remember if we turned them off each night though smirk.gif

Check out the Midland GXT600. 5 watts and advertised as 18 mile range, although the range is only under ideal conditions, which you will never find. $45 a pair, or $60 with desktop charger, vehicle charger, headset, and rechargable battery. I have the Cobras, but the Midlands are my next radios.

I have had the Cobras then I got the 5 Watt Midlands. I wish I would have gotten the 5 watt Cobras instead. Far better sound and quality that the Midlands (which I have exchanged twice because of sound quality). You get what you pay for. Look in the bargin cave at Cabelas and see what brand is always in there and maked down. There is a reason.

kunk: I am looking at the GTX600 as well. Where did you see them for the price quoted and all the accessories? Everywhere I look, it appears the rechargeable battery pack (AVP4) is an add on (Radios $55 and pack $25). I do like the fact you can use either AA batteries or the recharge batteries. Also, what did you not like about your Cobras and what model do you have? I might be interested in the Cobra LI6000. Thanks.

I had the midlands and audiovox. I steped up to the cobra model pr4750wx. The're solid, easy to use, water resistant, 5 watts?, weather band and use 4 AA batteries. Got them at walmart. I will NEVER own another audiovox even if it's free. My bro in law's motorola (sp) are solid and sound real good. bode

Purchased the Midland GTX600 and charger at Staples. Radios on sale for $39.95 and the charger was $29.95 with a $29.95 fast rebate - so the charger is free. Anyway, thought I would mention this in case anyone else was looking to make the same purchase.

I like my Motorolas over the Cobras I had.

Yeah, I have a couple of cheap Motorolas as well. Spent like $40 on them a few years ago. Only use them for communication on the lake when fishing. That way if I was out fishing on the pontoon, the wife could contact me for whatever reason.

I have the midland ltx 350 with NOAA and I love em. Got em at Gander on sale for 29.99. 10 mile range I believe and with rechargeable batteries. And if they go dead you can still use regular batteries. Only thing mine doesn't have that the better midlands is the vibra alert. Otherwise I do like having the NOAA on it.
