Sheet Rocking

MIKE IN lINO III

Recommended Posts

I need to sheet rock the ceiling of one room in my basement, I'm short on help, what is the best way to go about hanging sheet rock by yourself?

Would it be better to just hire the hanging out? I can do the taping and mudding.

Anybody know somebody in the

Lino - forest lake area that would be interested in doing the job?

Rent the lift...it's a lifesaver and a timesaver. Stratos is right on regarding the price range, but $90 is a heck of a lot cheaper than hiring the entire job. In my opinion, it's the taping and mudding that suck. Hanging the rock is the easiest part of the job. If you rent the lift, you can easily use 4X12 sheets and you'll end up needing fewer sheets and fewer seams to tape. The 4X12's are much heavier if you're doing it alone, and if that's the case, I'd use 4X8's so you don't wreck your back.

Funny you should say that. When I bought my house the garage walls where all taped up nice and the ceiling was bare???? Then I walked behind the garage and found all the broken sheetrock, guess they needed one of those lifts. crazy.gif

If you want to do it yourself, get the rock lift.

You can rent one for much less than $90 a day if you shop around. Try Drywall Supply, M & S, or Wallboard Inc. These are professional drywall supply companies adn I know sheetrockers who have rented the lifts for $35 a day.

If you don't want to mess with it, you can hire proffesionals who would charge approx $10 a sheet to hang it for you.

I can suggest a professional sheetrocker who has 18yrs experience and is also a great guy.

I think his name is Dennis Steele... grin.gif

Hi, me personaly I much prefer the look of a nicely finnished drywall ceiling to a cheap looking suspended ceiling. As for pipes being the reason to have a suspended ceiling; they're everywhere up and down anyways. Have an access for any shutoff valves there may be (outside water faucet during winter, etc.). Just my opinion.
