Central Bassman

Recommended Posts

I just want to know what you guys think is the best tournament series to fish for someone that is lookin to try to go some where with it. I know there are some like the BFL, Bassmaster Weekend, ABA, Fisher of Men and a few others. I just was wondering what you guys thought was the best to fish if you planned on making a run at this????

Whats your experience level? Have you been involved in a tournament atmosphere? If you have never done the tournament thing,I would suggest you start out in the ABA, because it doesn't have some of the good rods in it like the BFL or BASS weekend series has, weekend series has guys like Dean and Ted Capra, tough to beat them, when the tournies are on there home lakes for the most part.

Get your lines wet in the ABA for 2 to 3 seasons and see where you rank against those type guys and move up to the BFL or Weekend Series. ABA is probably more local than the BFL and B.A.S.S. events, so that might be a factor also.

The ABA has about 15-20 single day events within 1.5 hours from the Twin Cities. ABA you can fish alone if you have a boat and also be a nonboater and compete for the same prizes at each tournament. The BFL and Weekend Series is setup that the boater and non-boater have different prize pools and there are always two people in the boat for those events unless they don't get enough non-boaters.

I hope I got all these info correct, if not, somebody please correct me.

If you fish alot and are good to great with your mechanics (flipping,pitching,cranking...) but will still have to work a normal 40 hour a week job, then try the Stren Series or BFL. If you have the funds to fish on the pro side for a year then the BASS Opens. If you are knew to tournament fishing then try the Silverado or Bass Weekend series, now licensed to ABA. That's if you are talking about bass fishing cool.gif

Then I would fish BASS Weekend Series and/or WalMart BFL tournaments as they provide a qualification tournaments that can launch the career you are talkin about. Also, fishing the the MN BASS Federation Nation allows that qualification path as well. Hope that helps wink.gif

Yea i think im going to do the Walmart BFL for sure, just because i will end up fishing more river systems then anything esle when i go up the ranks. I think will also do the BASS weekend series when time lets me.

Make sure you have a decent boat to support a co-angler.

Central i was just curious because i have known a few fellas who have wanted and have attempted what you are about to do and money they had but time they didn't and the family resented his fishing passions. From what i hear it takes an aweful amount of time to fish these tourneys and then if you do make it to the top entry fees kill a guy 5000 per tourney that means you probably better make 10,000 per tourney just to break even. OUCH good luck man i am behind you all the way

Go big or go home

some of us will live the dream through you

They say that just to fish one of the big series, either FLW or BASS, that it will run you about $40,000-$50,000 per year. Just to fish it. That covers entry, gas, food, a place to stay and equipment repair....

Sponsor are verything when you make it to that top. Most or almost everyone that fishing BASS or FLW have fully rigged rides and have sponsorship deal with company that pay for alot of the tournament fees... Not everyone has them but alot of them do!! They arent paying for it out of there pocket!! I have talked to alot of pros at sportshow and just on the water so...

Central Bassman, I don't understand. You come in asking about what the best bass fishing series to join, then you start to talk about how you know everything about the anglers on both tours saying they get everything paid for and all this and that, which I know isn't true. I'm sure most these guys go home during the off season to make some extra cash, along with making time with a few of there sponsors to keep them happy.

The top 40 B.A.S.S. guys probably have big endorsement deals, like KVD and Ike, but no way does a Byron Velcick have a big deal with somebody, cuz if I sponsored him, I for sure wouldn't encourage him wearing that ugly Triton shirt that he wears.

FLW I would think the top 10 guys like Luke Clausen and Gagliardi have good sponsor deals, but the FLW doesn't really need the big deals, because there entry fees are alot lower than B.A.S.S.

Just my two cents.

Here's a real life example of someone just starting on a major tournament trail next year. He's with one of the big 6 boat manufacturers, he buys his own boat. It's a really nice deal, but free it is not. In fact, of the roughly 50 guys on staff, only 2 of them might get a free a boat. And no one really knows that they do for sure.

Entry fees, he pays them out of his pocket. Again, the large majority of the guys pay them out of pocket. Now, many sponsors offer their good pro(motional) staffers incentive money for good finishes in tournaments. But, how can you count on that. Again, it's from your pocket.

There is some tackle, rods, and reels available. That does help. But, that's there for the guys that have a good promotional track record, not just a guy that wants to do it.

This is reality. Fiction is that most people are cruising around on someone else's dime. It doesn't work that way. If you found guys that were telling you that, they were lying to you. Sorry.

i am pretty sure i remember someone on here saying that we would be suprised at how many of these tourneys go on the old credit card and i beleve it that there are probably a few guys out there that are doing it that shouldn't and are up to there ooo.gif in debt. I know if i were sponsoring anyone that unless they were family i could probably part with products over straight cash. good luck to you central

I have to agree with the last two posts. the one exception is that there are a few people cruising around on other people's dime, and it's called daddy's. Most often the young guys who are fishing the big leagues have rich parents and/or relatives that "sponsor" them.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
