I need some help from you guys if I could please. Im new here so bare with me on this. I purchased 2 St.Croix legend rods on sunday one medium and one ultra light action. I got home spooled up the medium action no problems. Open the ultra light and found that the tip was broken off (still factory sealed looked like). Returned it and got a new one. I get home to open the packageing find the tip is ok start to spool up the rod and the tip falls off again. Is this just my bad luck or these rods not that good?? Sorry for all the reading, but any help would be helpfull before I return this one for another new one. I just dont want to be out first time this season to have it break on me again. Thanks again for your time!

St. Croix rods are very small at the tip. They use a special powdered glue, but because there is such a small bond area, it still is tough to make the tip stay in one position. A little hot melt on the blank and remount the tip.

Do you think I should take it back and try my luck on a 3rd one? Or just fixit myself and hope it holds up? Im just worried ill be out fishing and a few fish in it will break.

Thanks again for your help.

If your handy and can tackle it, do it yourself but if you don't feel comfortable doing that then by all means take it back. I just find it easier/faster to put a drop of glue on the end of the rod then running back to the store. grin.gif

Since I joined this web site, I have heard a number of people complain about these rods. Obviously, St. Croix has some quality control problems. A FM member posted the same things you have. Tip was broke, tip falling off. Then later posted that when he called into them they told him to just super glue it on. I myself haven't used these rods, but would be upset if I spent $50 on some rod only to have the thing falling apart. If you want to do yourself a favor, take back the rod get your money and by a thorne brothers rod. If you want something cheaper try a Genz rod, reels are cheap on them but the rods are great for the money. Also, nature vision has excellent service. Everytime, that I have had a problem with a product of their's they've taken care of it. grin.gif

I have 4 myself and they are great rods. None of mine had the tip problem but I super glued them anyway. The tip is very fine and the bobber attachment is more like a clip - doesn't completely go around the rod like a regular rod tip. Anyway I had zero problems last winter and I am hard on stuff. Just throw rods in my case or the bottom of the sled. I would not hesitate to glue it myself but you can always return them. FYI the new rod slicks from Clam are great for spring bobber type rods. Protects the tips and now I won't have that tangled mess.

I just bought this years model and the tip is fine, my legend from last years model spins a little bit which bugs me but a little epoxy and your back in action, It probably spins from all the fish I caught last year with it laugh.gif

I ordered 5 Legends a few months ago and one had a broken tip when I got them. I sent it back and they sent me a new one. The new I received didnt even have the tip glued on confused.gif So I glued it on and all was fine. Then yesterday i was out fishing for the first time and a different rod's tip fell off. So I went and glued that one back one. Also, on almost every rod the guides were not lined up. They must have some serious quality control issues because this should not be happening for a $50 rod.

I bought two from Reed's on that sale - they are ok so far. A buddy of mine just took one of his that he bought last year out of the case today - was taping the reel on, and the tip fell off - I mean, the blank broke off inside the tip tube. I have used mine, and like it, however if one looks around a bit, there are better spring bobbers on the market. The Fiskas springs are superior in adjustability and durability, according to what I've seen and experienced so far.

The st. croix ice line has really gotten bad this year their guides are not aligned and the tip of some of the legends fall off. This is a problem that really needs to be addressed by st. croix. they make really good rods but they really need to fix thier quality control...

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
