Unique Fish House Sighting

I just love this time of year never knowing what you will see related to ice fishing.

Was at Fleet Farm (Lakeville) before noon and saw a p/u with a trailer and fish house parked by the lumber yard area.

I waited for twenty minutes in hope the owner would come out but he did not.

This guy had a small very light weight house framed and built inside a truck "bed liner" for a full size truck bed.

It appeared to be 6' in height so you could stand up if not a giant.

Seemed to be a very heavy duty liner but I'm no expert on them or the cost of them.

It had the wheel well areas inside framed for seats he made and it had a floor with (4) catch cover holes in it. I saw 12V lights, pink board & poly barrier, and older propane heater with pipe vent. Exterior was that inter locking barn tin type stuff. Bottom, corners, and ceiling framing were 2 x 2 stud the rest was 1x2 so this thing could not have weighed but 400 lbs if that.

The bed liner was easily removable which I assume is what he will do if and when the original wears out.

I thought it was a great way to easily move a house in or over snow and on early ice I'm sure the wind might even move it.

cheesehead:

I'm sure you could find a way to do just that with it.

This house I described the guy cut out the front bottom seam so it would not create drag when pulling. He left like 4" of the original corner seems on the front and had bolted a heavy guage aluminum sloped or rounded like a tub sled has to the front and painted it black. Looked like he cut out like 8" off the bottom seam of the front and 8" off the front from the bottom seam and replaced it with this curved metal. I'm sure the thing will go over and through anything with ease.

I've see a few of the sleep cabs, my uncles make house that slide into pick up beds, Narrow bottoms with benchs on the side, 4 holes, they fit everything you could ever imagion in there and there is room to play cards with 6-7 people.

Saw an old van from the cab back used as a house, it rolled on the back wheels and then they came off when they set it up.

I saw one of those truckbed fishhouses at ice fishing show last weekend, but don't remember the manufacturer. The man I talked to said it weighs about 250 lbs.

I always thought it would be neat to make a house out of a few portable biffs. Of course I would make sure to buy NEW ones not used. Just imagine the conversations that could be struck up with a house like that!

Years ago when there weren't all the portables we have now, I was fishing the backwaters by Winona. I notice a guy walking out pulling a big card board box. He drilled some holes, put the box over them and craweled in. A while later I smelled something burning. I looked over in time to see the guy just get off the ice. Instead of taking the box with, he just started it on fire. And walked away.

Imagine all the guys you would have coming in trying to use the bathroom. I wouldn't leave those on the ice unattended, you're probably going to be left with a full load. blush.gif
