pics of pike caught through the ice

Hey guys,

I am introducing some of my best friends to ice fishing and have been trying to explain to them the process of tip up fishing and the size of fish they may catch. Does anyone have a pic they can post so I can show these guys?

Not a monster but the only one that I've bothered to take a pic of from a tip-up. I usually forget about the camera and scramble to the flag in a frenzied mad dash before my buddies can beat me to it!

introduce them to "Tackle Tip-Up." A fun game for buddies to play.

Once that flag goes off it is full contact to see who can be the one to retrieve that fish.

It adds excitement and is most fun with more than 2 guys.

If they are bigger and stronger than you...well..forget it, unless you are a lot faster!!

I was kinda thinking that looked like a muskie too!

They usually go dormant throughout the winter don't they?

i dont think they go dormant, but i do think people just dont go looking for them or use big enough live bait, in my opionion anyway, just wierd to see one in a winter picture if that is what it is?

yep, that a ski for sure.

I think you'd be surprised how many are caught through the ice.

Yup. Someone told us you can't catch a musky when targeting them through the ice.

So we took the cameras out on one of the nastiest days days last winter and filmed it being done. All jigging with no live bait, we wanted to stress the importance of good handling in the winter along with the how to aspect.

The show should be up sometime this winter.

oh yeah you can catch muskie threw the ice if you just know where to look, just not worth it in my opionion

I know Gilespie caught a few on a sconnie lake through the ice in one of last years shows.

Musky can be easily caught through the ice once you figure out their winter habits and small feeding windows. Trouble is handling them. You need to be ready for it, big hole, release tools ready and try not to exspose them to to the cold air for very long at all or set them on the ice and snow. That one was released as quickly as we could even though I had trouble getting my hand under its jaw to pick it up. Funny how a guy gets used to grabbing them that way then when you can't it becomes confusion.
