dillon
I just caught a cross fox in a snare and was wondering if anyone knows what they are worth. This is the first one that I have caught.
Cooter
No idea, but I'd keep it myself. Later.
HC Eye Hunter
That's awesome, I haven't seen one of those since my trapping days back in the early 80s. I wouldn't sell it either, have it tanned, you may never see another.
RBuker
A true cross fox isn't worth much to the fur trade because they don't match up well with other furs. As a tanned fur, because of their rarity, they are worth quite a bunch. But, if it were mine, I'd keep it.
B. Amish
how bout a picture?
Cooter
We ran one a few years back and he had so many different colors on him it was unreal, I wanted him bad but he got down a hole on us before anyone could get a shot off. Might be a long time before I get another chance at one.
Cooter
Here's a question, can they climb?
HC Eye Hunter
Grey fox climb trees. I believe a cross fox is a cross between a silver and a red.
RBuker
A cross fox is just a color phase of the red. And, a silver is just a color phase of a red and a black is just a color phase of the red. And a grey is it's own species. (sorry, just had to throw that one in there...)
dillon
I decided to keep the fox and get it tanned. Sorry B.Amish, no pics. Cooter, a while back you had some questions about fisher trapping. How did you end up doing?
Polar Bear
The pelt shows a definate "cross" of darker fur running up the back and crossing the shoulders. Thats how the name came to be... not because of the "cross-bred" term we usually think of. Polar Bear
McGurk
That is one mean looking fox, good call on keeping it yourself!
Cooter
The fisher trapping is at a standstill - been so stinkin busy at work I set three traps back at end of Oct for two evenings and got skunked. This weekend and probably for a while now I'll be bobcat hunting. So the fisher trapping is gonna get put on hold - I'm gonna set some traps much closer to home(not as many fisher) so I can check them before work. I really did not want a fisher and bobcat tag the same year so with time constraints I'm hoping for one of the two. Later.
