Protecting spring bobber rods?

Velcro. I have a different kind of spring bobber rod, but it's the same concept. I cut a piece of velcro so it totally incases the spring, press it together and your protected. I've never had any problems with this yet.

I have been using the foam insulators for water pipes (the bigger ones). Cut to length, about 3" longer then rod. Then cut out a hole where the reel handle is located. Xacto knife (or razor) works well for cutting.

I also cut the slit wider (running length wise) to make it easier to get the rod in and out.

When I put the rod away, I hook the jig to the end of the foam. This way the spring is not bent while in storage.

i saw some great tubes that were at the thorne bros display. they slide from the tip down to the reel connection then fastened to the end of the rod handle. also a good rod bag will help in keeping them in good condition.

I think with the st.croixs you are supposed to just tighten the line so it bends the spring around and then pack it away. That was what the instructions said on the side of the rod tube of mine.

Spring fully extended.

A friend of mine takes his reel off and puts it back in his plastic cylinder.

I'll probably go with St. Croix's method with a case, I think the springs are pretty durable.
