gspman
On Sunday my brother and I were checked by a CO and got a warning for not having enough blaze orange on. It's still muzzle loader season for deer. The CO said we need to be orange from the waist up (except for the sleeves) so your basic bird vest won't do. Also if you are wearing a hat it needs to be orange. It was nice to see a CO out in our area. I haven't seen or been checked by a CO in about 25 years. I wish there were 3 times as many CO's out there.

gspman
If it's all orange then according to the CO we talked with you'd be okay but I'd definitely check the regs to be sure.
Eric Wettschreck
I think GPSMan might be talking aboot the vests that are only a little orange and have duck/canvas colored top half, maybe? Fully orange vest and an orange hat are legal.
Whoaru99
Yeah, I think that's the type - the vests that are mainly tan, etc., and have only some rather smallish blaze orange patches up around the shoulder areas.I mentioned this to a group of Pheasant hunters working a large grassland and slough area next to where I hunt and they got all pi$$y with me. Like "Are you the CO?" and a few choice other things. Of course, I said no I was not the CO, just trying to provide some friendly advice to keep you from getting a citation, or worse. The grass and other stuff is pretty tall out there and it's surrounded by woods and river bottom on three sides so I thought it was fairly relevant to safety.I was on the verge of dropping a dime on them just because of their rude and extremely arrogant attitude, but I didn't.Later found out these are some new guys leasing the land for hunting and are allegedly "bigwigs" from a couple businesses in a larger city about 75 miles away. Suppose they didn't take kindly to some insignificant local suggesting they really should be wearing more blaze orange.
BobT
I wonder, since they weren't dressed in enough orange, how insignificant you would have been if before they came into view they realized there was a muzzle aimed in their direction anticipating identification? Granted, it is not entirely good practice to even point one's firearm toward a sound before identifying what it is, but in today's field it isn't an uncommon occurrance. What's even more likely is you taking a shot at a deer while not realizing they were also in line of fire because you didn't see them. All their pride, stubbornness, or money probably wouldn't stop a ball.
