Whats a good rod reel case?

Scheels has two different options for 16 bucks. they both hold 3-4 rod and reel combos, the difference between them is the one has a PVC casing for the rods, and the other doesn't have any PVC but it has two velcro straps to hold the rods in place. I just bought the PVC one because I think it's more protective, but the other one has more storage in side pockets for tip-ups, tackle, etc. Both the same price, both are nice, zippers seem OK from what i've seen.

I'm tired of the arrow case, having to fold the handle, an dont like buckets. Whats a good cheap case that holds 4-6 rods an reels? thanks boar.

It's not cheap, about $60 but the best rod case I've ever used is the Otter rod box. It holds 4 rods and reels fully loaded and it's taken quite a few spills off the front of my quad and no problems. Very durable and easy access to your setups.

I've got a rifle case, one side thats designed to carry two rifles with scopes. I use this for the travel in the truck on trips. The Thorne Bros and St Croix rods go in there to protect the investment.

Once on the ice I use two Croxton Pond bags. Huge pocket on one side that is long enough for 24" rod, and two 12" pockets on the other for whatever you can think of. They run about 20 bucks and will hold up to 32" rods and 4 or six combos when it comes to walleye. I can get about 8 combos in for panfishing. I'll break the bags down by style of fishing (sight and hole hopping/finesse). To prevent tangles I just layer the rods with hand wash towels or the red shop rags you can buy in the bundles.

I use a 42" Ready Rig for the older Genz LR MH and Pro Plus rods. Wish I had four more of them for these 36" rods.

Hey paul I thinks whats scary is that you have a green abu cardinal with a genz lightning rod on the right an a green abu cardinal with a frabil on the left, am I right? I have doubles of the same. You would'nt happen to tip them with a chartruse doodle bug an black an glow weasle would ya? Boar

Mason38 - ReadyRig's Ice Pro Plus case is 38" long...more than enough length to handle your 36" combos. The Ice Pro Plus case replaced the Ice Pro 42 case about four years ago and it comes with more features like a shoulder strap, two side pockets for tackle storage and reflective safety tape. ReadyRig also has a rod locker style rod case that is 35" long and includes two large side pockets for tackle or tip-up storage. You can get the Ice Pro Plus for around $19 and the rod locker for $17 bucks if you look around. Hope this info helps!

The stone legacy is a nice case and serves the purpose well, although for a guy like me that brings the cell phone, pager, camera, gps, keys etc etc. the Ready Rig Ice Pack has a ton of pockets to stuff goodies in plus my beaver dam tip-ups fit inside. Another thing I like about the ready rig is the big baitcasters I use for Pike and Trout fit in the bag. The Stone Legacy has lots of room but it is a little tight for the baitcasters. Granted most guys don't icefish with Abu Garcia 5500s but I can stuff them into the bag and still zip it up.

Also pay attention to the zippers, the zipper makes the case. I have a few ice bags sitting in the corner because the zipers blasted out.

Waxworm -

I am interested in seeing the Scheels bag. Can you post pics of it?? I think having individual tubes for each rig would be really nice. Thanks.

No don't got any pics of the scheels bags, but just so you know it's just one about 3" piece of PVC not individual tubes for each rod, though i'm sure you could rig something up with some 1" PVC inside that one if you were motivated enough. I just liked that idea better than the other version because I didn't want my hooks catching on fabric.

Gander Mountain has a nice bag by their First Ice brand that can hold quite a few combos. I have one that I carry 6 combos including my walleye/pike combos. They have two long pockets on the sides for small tackle boxes and stuff. They come with two shoulder straps so you can wear it like a backpack. I really like this case and to make it even better, they are only $9.99!

If Croxton Pond makes the "Vermillion Pack" I think it's called, then that's what I have and I love that thing. I carry 4 rod and reel combos, one Frabill wooden tip-up, 3 spools of line, headlamp, handwarmers, GPS, waxies, 2 small tackle boxes, compass, camera, tape measure.... you get the idea, all in that pack with room to spare. You can also wear it as a backpack if you're walking out on early ice and dont have enough hands. One of the best purchases I've made for ice fishing.

I'm looking at getting a bag too. With the Stone legacy and the Croxton Pond how are the zippers? Have they held up through many seasons? I know that the zipper makes the bag, because I have two bags (can't remember the brand) that the zipper broke after one season. I have six combos that I would like to fit into a bag that the zippers don't break after a season.

Thanks,

Musky

The Stone Legacy looks nice but I've had the Otter Rod Box for a couple of years and really like it. It's a hard case with foam in it and it keeps my rods perfectly safe. I can throw it around and don't have to worry about anything. Bruce Mosher

Croxton Pond. They have a bag that has four seperate compartments for rods and one large central pocket for tackle etc. Have had mine for 3 years and the zippers are holding up nicely. Plus it isnt so big that you feel the need for backpack type straps, leave the kitchen sink at home smile.gif

I have a Croxton Pond and I love it. Very sturdy, holds my lure box and easy to get the rod in and out. I also like the Stone Legacy as well. I bought the Unbucket JR as a gift for someone once. Very nice stuff from Stone Legacy. But I am a minimalist when it comes to ice fishing. I don't seem to bring nearly as much stuff as others bring on the ice. To each his own.

I have the Revolution and it does what I need. The hard plastic protection was the selling point. It makes it easier to haul around the custom rods. I saw the Ready Rig this weekend and it is huge. If I put that on I'd look like a sherpa going up Mt. Everest.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
