Ice Armor???

Bought my blue set last year, Really liked the padded knees and seat. Had a problem with the bib zippers and they set me a new set and paid for the return of the defective ones. If I were purchasing this year I would consider the Amor X Only 50 more and you get the jacket insert. Have seen and they are nice.

Go for it

Hiya -

I've had a chance to wear the Ice Armor X suit the last couple weekends on open water. It's tremendous. Suit is comfortable, you can move in it, and the combo of bibs, liner, and parka is really versatile. Lots of well-thought-out features like snaps instead of velcro, convertable bibs that can turn into pants, heavy neoprene sleeve openings, etc. Really, really great stuff...

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

I've got the blue suit, its loaded with features. Pockets, pads and the fly fishing style fleece patch for your jigs. I bought it slightly larger than I needed for layering. The X suit looks sharp, but not sure about the removeable bib where it turns into a pair of pants. I really had no complaints with my Carhart bibs and jacket, except where the zippers were located, it seemed like the cold air just whistled through them. Would have to see how they convert to the pant. I really like the high back on the blue suit's bibs. Keeps the back just a bit warmer.

I'm with you on the Carhartt's. I have the Artic Extreme bibs and I love them. I've never had a problem with wind through the zippers like you though. I've never tried the Ice Armor, but the Carhartt's are something you should consider.

I too own a blue suit and would recommend it. I really like the bellow pockets on the bibs. They are located just below your waist and are in ideal locations for when you are standing, kneeling or sitting on th ice. The padding in the seat and knee area money well spent. I have yet to become wet in either places when I'm without a seat.

I will use the jacket 50/50- depending on the weather. If the weather is pretty bad, I will wear the jacket and on the nicer days I just leave it home. The days I do use, it is "The Great Wall of China" to the elements! It also has plenty of storage for gadgets, gloves, and small tackle boxes. Do buy it in a size larger than you would normally so it fits correctly.

If you want to stay dry and comfortable & also have a good time on the ice each time you are out, I would highly recommend this set up!

Lots of people love the new suits coming out but if you're looking for a combination of warmth and safety the best option in my opinion is a Mustang suit. I am going on my 2nd season with my Mustang and it's the warmest garment I've ever owned and it's also the safest in case you break through or take a spill out of the boat this time of year or in early spring. To me if you're going to spend that kind of money on an ice fishing outfit why not get one that could also save your life and is windproof and waterproof like the Mustang. That Ice Armor suit may look good but it sure won't help you if you break through and it won't keep you from getting hypothermia and to me, it's safety first on the ice wink.gif

Mustang suit sounds like a great idea. I wonder why Clam, ect, doesn't integrate bouyancy into their product? I wear a life preserver first/last ice under the Jacket, and I ask myself that question each outing. Maybe some built-in "spikes" too (for pulling yourself out). What model Mustang do you use??

In a year or two, they will all have insultex in them. It is an unbelievable insulator and it will float the biggest ice fisherman/woman out there. I'm sure the rest of the gear out there is nice, but I live on the ice in the winter and want the best.

I have both the blue Ice Armor suit and the new X-treme Gray Ice Armor Suit, along with a jacket from Vexilar.

My observation is that the Vexilar coat (and or the StrikeMaster coat, made by same place) is a bit lighter in the sense of insulation then both Ice Armor jackets. I have been wearing the Vexilar coat the past few times out in the boat, and it does keep me warm and keeps the wind out. But just does not seem as warm as the Ice Armor clothing IMHO.
