Ice Fishing Sled

Recommended Posts

This summer I bought a suitcase style shanty from a guy who used to make them out of his shop. I am new to ice fishing and was wondering if I could get some ideas on what kind of sled to use to walk/pull my gear around the lakes. I have an old toboggan at my parents house, but am not sure how effective that would be. Thanks for any info.

I second the Otter sled. They also work very well for things other than ice fishing. I also use mine for yardwork around the house. I've dragged dirt, pots, leaves, branches, you name it. I drag it across my driveway with no hyfax and there is hardly any wear.

Go Otter. If not then make a ski platform with a box that your house and gear will fit in. Sides need to be about 30" high to 36" high. It will be heavier than a Otter though and probably wont pull as nice . Get the hyfax.

I have the same style portable, Mankato Tent and Awning suit case, the otter sleds were awkward as the shack was to large to not slide off...I made a sled from a pair of old wooden water skis and this allows me to hump over the most rugged of entry points with the shack and gear strapped to the sled. If needed I tow my otter behind with more gear..just a thought..good luck
