pic REQUEST; home made skis for ice house

I just purchased a clam 6800 and want to make skies for it. if you have made them or maybe you have pics of them can you please post them here. when i get home (st louis mo workin) i want to make some but need ideas, then ill add my pics to the thread. thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if these will be long enough, but I have used some old downhill skis before for another ice fishing sled. You may want to start there if you have access to such a thing. Make sure you reinforce the back side, or inside the fish house with metal straps. I've tried large washers, but they have a tendancy to pull through after some use.

I also built a sled out of old skis purchased and play it again sports for $10. built up a frame about 10-12" off the ground. pulled really nice. I still have it somewhere. get me your e-mail and i'll try and send you pics.

Also, I'd think it would have to be much easier finding and buying old used downhill skis than trying to make your own.

have any of you guys tried to make your sled out of 4" pvc pipe. it work great. attach a 45degree elbow in the front and cap it off, front and back. attach the 2 skis together wwith 4 "T"s with a pipe going between the skis. make it what ever lenth and width you want. slides great!

o man, just had to throw a wrench in my brain didnt you. that actually sounds like a great idea! will it hold 150 lbs tho? i never even would of thougght of this. good going may have to rethink how to make this thing.

I had thought about that, just think about the price differenece, and if it bounces real hard on a trailor what might happen to the PVC. Someone had posted something about some hard plastic that had an abbrivation but ofcourse I cannot find that, My clam only had the two runners on it and on one of them I have started to wear a hole, So I have to find something thats atleast 4" wide and ddjust over 4 feet long, I was thinking an old pair of Skis, water or snow, I am however thinking I might have to go with a large wear strip.
