Want a cantlever rifled slug barrel for Remington 1100

I seen Cabela's ad with a rifled 22" cantlever with a Remington scope for $219 but when I called all they had was 870 barrels left. Found Remington barrel at Walmart for $249 but they had to order,Hasting barrel for $300 with warning not to shoot brass slugs, $369 Remington barrel at Gander Mtn.

New or used doesn't matter and I am in no rush. Any one know where I can find one for a good price. Are there other brand rifled slug barrels that fit on a Remington 1100 and do they shoot good? I want a scope on my deer gun. Thank you.

gander mtn will probably have 1 and they will match cabelas price. I'm gussing your talking about the remington copper slugs even the rem barrels say not to shoot them? I havn't figured that out myself rem. slugs, rem. barrel dont work together?

Why can't they be shot in these rifled slug barrels? I though that is what they were designed for.

I just checked the box and the info sheet that my Remington rifled slug barrel came with and it doesn't say anything about not using copper slugs. As a matter of fact they recommended using the Remington premier copper slugs for the best performance.

I got my barrel at Mills for $129. (not cantilever)

I have a Mossberg fully rifled barrel on my Remington and it shoots real well. That's an 870 but I think they make an 1100 too. Make sure you put a shotgun scope on it too, they are made to take the recoil... A cheap riflescope won't handle it.

Ditto on the scope comment. If you plan to shoot any of the 1900 to 2000 FPS sabots, I would go to a 24" barrel with as fast as twist as you can get. Cabelas' HSOforum sells a new barrel from American Barrel that is a 1:26 twist for $189. The problem is that they are backordered for several months. You need the tighter twist and length to stabilize those slugs at 100 yards or more. I had an 870 with a Hastings 1:35 twist that couldn't group the fast slugs at 100 yards. I bought a Benelli Nova with a 1:28 twist and I get 4" groups at 100 yards with the Hornady SST's. I killed a deer with this gun last weekend. With that barrel and a scope, you will have a 200 yard effective killing range. If you don't plan to shoot over 100 yards, the other barrels will work fine. I just like the option of shooting farther should I need it. I hope this helps.

My 870 with Hastings rifled seems to do alright with the Win Partition Golds, but shooting them makes one a glutton for punishment.

I've been eyeballing those new American barrels, but thinking instead just to go with one of the single-shot 20ga for the stand, and use either the Rem 870 or Moss 500 with front Firesite and rear ghost ring along with plain old pumpkin balls for the drives...

Back to the topic for the OP.... if you don't need it right away, I'd probably get in line for that American barrel if you are set on using the 1100.

When you say copper slugs, are talking about sabots? I have a an 870 with a rifled slug barrel and all I shoot though it is remington sabots.

Yes, the Remington CopperSolids were not recommended to use in some barrels. I've never heard why, but it seems I read something that the early CopperSolids were different than the ones they make now and what ever it was, is not an issue any more. Consider that a rumor because I have not been able to find the information I thought had read.
