Things are in the planing stages at this point but we were thinking of fishing for both.Maybee a weekend thing. We would set up a meeting place along a stretch of the river that had some good shore fishing for those who wanted to shore fish or for those who wanted to come out for just the day.Have some lunch do a little fishing share some tips and enjoy each others lies smile.gif.If some guys wanted to fish at night we could could just meet back at the same spot the next day. Some guys could set up on various sand bars to fish the night away together. We could also accomadate some shore bound anglers with some good walkin spots or take a few along in the boat(s).I plan on making a weekend of it no matter what happens.

If you use the right bait..you can catch the big ones smile.gif.
Eddy,It would be great if you can make it.You might be a little dissapointed with the channels on our humble little river(20lbs is the biggest I've seen, average is about 5lbs) but I'm sure you would enjoy the flatheads. There has been a little discussion on having two,one on the MN and one on the Red.We were going to talk to you about that one after we got a feel of who would be interested in what.

WELL IT LOOKS LIKE WE WON'T HAVE ANY TROUBLE CATCHING ENOUGH BAIT FOR THIS ONE! THE OTHER CATMEN MUST STILL BE HIBERNATING RIGHT NOW.

ANOTHER OPTION WOULD BE GETTING IN ON THE CAT CONTESTS THAT ARE ALLREADY ESTABLISHED (I KNOW OF TWO AND ONE MORE INVITE ONLY ON THE MINNESOTA RIVER). THE ONE HERE IN BELLE PLAINE IS A PRETTY GOOD TIME AND GIVES UP $1,000 SKINS FOR THE BIG ONE!

Dark*30 can you send me info on the cash tournaments on the Minnesota River or others that may be interesting.

If I have time to plan ahead I may be able to compete in them as well as some in Oklahoma & Kansas this year.

I was kicking around the idea of fishing the WWCATS (PTS) series this year, or enough to qualify for the big events late in the year.

They have contacted me on starting a chapter of WWCATS in this region. I am feeling the region out to see if it is going to work. Feedback on this from you cat hunters would be cool.

Another catfish tournament series is also eyeing up the region and may wish to get a tournament series going. So I am scouting them both out to see what would be best for the region and the sport.

www.WWCATS.com is the site if you’re interested in seeing what they are about and what they have set for 2002.

W.W.C.A.T.S. 2002 TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

Hey, there's a good chance my brother & I could make it to a Minnesota or Mississippi event. I'll be at that Belle Plain tournament for sure. That was a lot of fun. I might actually fish it this year. We are going to fish the Red in May, but we're going all the way to Selkirk. I can't wait for that. I'll definately try to make it to a catfish outing. Vern

I TALKED WITH "JUNKYARD PAT" TODAY ABOUT THE BELLE PLAINE CAT CONTEST. THEY'RE PRETTY SURE ITS GOING TO BE THE AUGUST 3rd WEEKEND THIS YEAR...WAITING FOR DNR PERMITS.

CHANGES THIS YEAR WILL INCLUDE A MODIFIED PAYOUT (PROBABLY $1,OOO/1st,$500/2nd,and $250/3rd.) ENTRY WILL BE $25. I'LL POST MORE AS SOON AS ITS A FUR SHUR!

AS FAR AS OUR F.M. CAT FIGHT ON THE MINNESOTA...HOW ABOUT JULY? SAY...20th? OVERNIGHT WOULD BE RECOMENDED. ONCE WE GET A HEAD COUNT, WE CAN PLAN THE SPOT/SPOTS BETTER. I KNOW A LANDOWNER THAT SHOULD LET US CAMP ON HER PROPERTY BUT ITS A BOAT TRIP NOT FAR UP FROM THE JORDAN ACCESS.

WHO HAS A BOAT OR WOULD NEED TO HOOK UP WITH ONE?

I've talked with Dark30 and fishhead about this get together and it would be great to have one on the Misissippi, the Minnesota, and the Red Rivers.

Dark30 & fishhead why don't you shoot a date/location out there for the Minnesota? Eddy, can you do the same for the Red? Maybe JimW can line something up for the ol Miss?

I'll be talking with Jim W shortly. If any of you want to call me so we can get a plan going I'm ready to go.

My number is (507) 455-1504

July 20 would work for me.As far as a location I think somehwere between Shakopee and Belle Plain. This is the section I am most familiar with and would be most helpful to any novice anglers that may decide to come.An actuall metting place should be somewhere in between preferably at a boat launch. Then guys could head out from there and meet back the next day.I am leaning towards the Carver access. It is centralized and there is a large park for any activities we may have during the day. There is also some excellent shore spots for daytime angling along the park and near it.My second choice would be the Jordan access. There is some very good spots to fish from shore near there. The only problem with that is with bridge construction it may limit some shore access. And parking is limited should there be a large turnout.
I don't want to exclude the shore bound anglers but it might be tough for them.I know of plenty of good flathead spots from shore but I am not quite sure of the legality of camping in these places. However I have never heard of any problems.I will check these things out.

First 3 weeks of August is a no-go for me for sure, I will be in Canada. Most of July too will be darn busy?

Mid to late May or late august to early September is a good time frame to consider a Red River get together. Late August into September would be ideal for many reasons, a big fish time for sure. Fall bite is the most consistent, but just not too late into the fall or the cats will get sleepy.

That should give you a few ideas to work with on dates. By spring my free time windows of opportunity will be very narrow for the whole summer and fall.

OK,
the Minnesota River - Saturday, July 20th.
Dark30 and Fishhead, when you're ready can you please name the spot and time?
Eddy, how does Saturday September 7th sound to you for the Red River excursion?

We also have a volunteer for the Upper Mississippi River in First Choice Guide. He will be naming dates and times soon.

Jim W, do you have any ideas for the Mississippi River below the metro area to Iowa?

CARVER SOUNDS LIKE A WINNER FOR THE MINNESOTA RIVER TOUR!

LUNCH AT NOONISH,A LITTLE PREP/talk AND OFF WE GO! MAYBE WE COULD EVEN INCORPORATE A FRIENDLY LITTLE "CHILI COOK OFF" AT THIS EVENT? I WONDER WHAT CHUB CHILI WOULD TASTE LIKE?

WE'LL HAVE TO CHECK ON "OVERNIGHT" STAYS BUT IT SHOULD BE OK. I KNOW PEOPLE DO STAY THERE, BUILD SMART FIRES, AND DRINK LOTS OFF POP.

So just on a goof, I check out the cat section. And what do I find..... A get-together in my neck of the woods!!! Me, being one of those novice cat catchers Fishhead was talking about, will need a bit of guidence from you river experts. I've never really talked to Mr. Whiskers so I'm going to need something to start off on. Boat, yea of nea? Tackle required. Bait. Give me some ideas here.

I'm hoping that the Mrs. will be able to attend as well. She really wants to meet you folks.

I'm glad I stopped by.....Dan

Hi Dan.
Nice to see you in our little world here.
Just bring big hooks, big bait, big sinkers and your musky gear and you should be set.Boats will all depend on what the water levels are like.If you have a duck boat that would be your best bet,Might want to leave the big rig home.We will share some what and where with ya.

WOW this this is cool, Sitting here try to figure out what i can do with this thing the wife said we need to get the pups for Xmas, and canopy sam says fshmn.com So here I am. Some of you guys have swapt info with him, he's a good guy, ate alot of shore mud with him for fifteen years or more. Hook up with him, a heck of cat-rat, taught me alot but dont tell him, to much swelling of the head. I'm on the RED as soon as poss. Oslo, Drayton Ect. NW MN boy here, any rats want to hook up I'm willin, Im trying to hook up with canopy sam this summer down south, interested in some flat whiskers, love the forks but flats sound awsome. I neded to try out a new three way system I had designed for me by the guy who makes the foam ice buster bobber. It's like his foam walker, but bigger, 10" piece of foam with an interchangble weight to fit current needs, no more tying three ways, just clip this babby on and let sail. Never tips over, always boyant to keep your rig in the fish zone. Have to go, Have a monkey crawlin on me. Happy cattin, Hootie
