I was ready in June. I got my heater cleaned up and painted, fixed the tail lights, glued in my floor insulation. It is ready to go. All my gear is in the cabinet and organized so I can find all of it easily. Now all I need is ice.

I can't even find the time to put the boat away and my dropdown trailer is being built next week. Wood to cut and split, trees to move, All of the stuff that should be done before the snow flies but bowhunting is so much fun and don't forget the pheasants. My old lady is ready to kill me!! Ha! Living retirement is good!!

Sleeping? I held off the fever until about two weeks ago and now I can't get that ice off my mind when I'm trying to fall asleep. Try explaining that one to people who don't indulge in the sport of kings. Think cold.

Check those ST Croix's soon Tyler . I just received 4 legends and each and every one of them has terribly misaligned rod eyes and one even the tip is completely loose .I'm hearing more and more of this issue and even posted about it on another site . ST Croix sucks in the quality control department and too expensive for this Canuck to return so will have to get the rods and eyes rebound here. mad.gif Wouldn't catch me ever ordering one sight unseen again . Thorne Bros or anybody else here I come .

Sorry I got sidetracked and seen red when I saw St Croix's mentioned . LOL . I got seven other rods so far from other manufacturers this year and one custom one from a friend that all were properly eyed . Also the new otter wilderness perch ,another LX-5 and also a Nils power auger and so far atleast 4 reels and sooo many jigs and plastics . Also have two revolutions in transit and another tote bag .I'm just about ready methinks once I pick up a second snowmachine . Also wondering if the ready rig soft auger bags will hold the length of a NILS . I'll be ordering a Thorne Bros laker shortly just havent decided on length yet . grin.gif

And yes the Otter is setup in the spare room and good place to keep hiding the new additions as the mail man shows . grin.gif

I've been busy working on the new ice house trailer. I copied Love To Hunt's suspension design which looks like it'll be a real winner! Thanks LTH! It doesn't look like I'll have the time or cash to put a house on it this year, but I hope to start working on that as soon as the snow melts next year.

As for this year, ShawwnyB and I will start getting the other perm ready for the ice. We did some remodeling last spring, but got distracted and never put things back together. So, Saturday will be spent reinstalling the furnace, installing a reclining couch in the back, reinstalling the stereo, glueing some tackel storage foam on the walls and other general touch-up work.

The Otter is currently stored in the bunk, otherwise I would have already slept in the house several times this year.

WHERE'S THE ICE! Oh yeah, the pond on the North side of Hwy 8 across from little Green was almost completely frozen over Monday afternoon. Boy did that get the blood pumping!

Thank you Matt and I wished I had of asked you before I placed the ST Croix order at the time and I appreciate your e-mail and help like always . Prob is I just haven't figured out which Thorne Bros rod to clamp onto and was getting a Thorne even before the St Croix issue came up . I would just have ordered more Thornes and not bothered with the St Croix's if I would have known what unveiled to me yesterday . LOL . Live and learn I guess . I don't mind the Legends blank, handle or the springs but the quality control is by far the worst I have ever seen on anything and I'm not known to be a griper in things I buy but 0 for 4 St Croix's that are useable right out of the tube is making me one . LOL

I haven't brought the ice fishing stuff out of storage yet, but the camper and 1800 fisherman are winterized and put away. The 14 foot boat is still waiting for another trip on the open water before being winterized. I bet I'm ready when the ice is thick enough for an old coot. laugh.gif

I don't want to change the direction of this thread, so I'll just say my St. Croix are in good shape. I now have 7 legends and the only issue I've had with 1 was via user mis-handling. It sounds like I was one of the lucky ones and I'll leave it at that.

Regardless, I'm getting ready for hard water.

Plans for this weekend:

Fire up the auger

Look through tackle

Setup my Otter and make sure its looking good

Dig out some of the items that have been stored for the summer

Check over each rod.

Replace line on those that need it.

Charge the Vex battery again

Charge the camera battery again

WoW, there's lots more to do that that as well. I'd better clear my schedule. This is important stuff

TD,

As an FYI, the Nils is to long to fit in the Ready Rig Auger Bag I'm sorry to say.

Well thank you kindly Paul as I have been trying to get this info for awhile . I have a Jiffy as well but only want one case . Would you happen to know of a case that will cover the Nils completely but I want a soft case . ? Thanks .

TD,

Currently no one makes a soft case, or for that matter a hard sided case that will fit the Nils. I just bought a small bag with a cord that tightens up (kind of like a sleeping bag case) to cover the head. I have been running a Nils for a couple of years and have never had a problem with it leaking oil or gas, so the bag has been a non issue for me. I only use the bag to cover the head of the auger when I put it on the Auger rack of my sled to protect it from the snow and ice building up.

Im almost ready ooo.gif Just bought a Marcum LX-2 after getting rid of the Vex FL18. Still have to get a new plug for the auger and dust off the Eskimo Quick Flip. I can't wait to get out.

I usually get everything dusted off and ready after deer season. I plan on cutting a larger spear hole opening in the floor of my portable darkhouse. I will inspect my two Otter lodges for any small holes or tears.

I have planned the traditional trip up north for the spearing opener on 12/1. There has always been enough ice to at least walk out by then - so take heart, it won't be long now no matter how warm it might be during deer season.

    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
