Summit Climbing Stands

Ok so i heard lots of good things about these stands now i come to the question of what model to buy, What does everyone else use and how do you rate them, i was looking at maybe either the viper SS or the Razer X5. Or maybe the Backpacker? what are the main differece in these different models?

I have the broadhead backpacker and I really like the stand. It is the most comfortable stand I ahve ever been in. I'm not too keen on the way it breaks down and the weight. If I had to do it over again I'd get the viper basicly the same stand but doesn't fold flat. I also like the lone wolf, but for $300+ plus I'd get a Summit.

I have a Summit 4X Viper.. and love the thing.

I think it comes down to what you want in a stand. Light weight? One you can sit in for many hours? Ect...

I have the Viper SS. I have only had it for about 3 weeks but I like it so far. It took a little bit to get used to it and know what trees work best for it but I like it. I also thought about the Goliath just for the bigger size for late season deer and muzzle for heavy clothes.

I've had the backpacker going on my 3rd year and I like it. You have to be carefull to be quiet while you "put it together" in the AM but it is the most comfortable stand I have ever owned. I usually bring a separate backpack in when I hunt longer periods of time and I can strap that over the folded down climber stand. ie: a backpack on a backpacker. I have not used any other climbers so I can't compare them to the Summits. I mostly hunt the north woods so having it fold flat was a big concern for me as it is quieter walking thru the woods. If I wasn't going thru the woods all the time I would not have gotten the backpacker. If I had to buy another one I would get the same one.

I have the Summit Vipor and have used it during the bow season. Awesome stand. I played with it in the garage putting it together and taking it a part. Once you learn how it is a breeze. Especially in the dark. The new ones now have a camo foam padding that you install to keep the noise down. Very comfortable to walk around with. One thing I did was buy some eye hooks and rope. Every where I climb I have marked and hook my rope to the tree. Just one less thing to deal with in the morning or when your climbing. You can get pretty good to. I usually go about 12 to 16 feet and can break it down and hook it to the tree and be sitting in a few minutes. I had my wife make me a camo cover I tie down on the three sides to cover any movement from my legs and hands. Also had her make some pockets for drinks and calls or whatever you need. Awesome stand. The bad thing about it is it's touch to stay awake in. Way to related. Good hunting!!!!

Summit stands are awesome. I bought the Razor SS and I love it. It's basically the same as the Viper except the shooting rail will fold underneith the seat, making it good for both gun and archery hunting. I had no buyers remorse with this purchase.

I have the bullet backpacker, and I LOVE it!! Quick and easy set-up, quiet and extremely stable. It weighs 23 pounds, but that is only a couple pounds more than the viper, or many other of the stands.

I am a bowhunter and I really like the bar coming around the front on the upper piece. It gives me a very secure feeling while standing, since I know where the edges of the base are because my thighs will hit the upper bar.

The really nice thing about the stand is that if I happen to doze off, I know I am not going to fall out since I am basically "harnessed" in around my upper body. I cannot fall by leaning one way or the other, and falling forward would be extremely tough to do if you move the seat forward and sort of "recline"...

The extra weight (to me) is really worth the comfort. you can sit all day in those stands.

You won't regret your purchase if you get one...

I am pleased with my Summit, but its the only climber I've used other than the old, often homemade death traps. I have the Bushmaster, which is nice at around 17lbs. I use it mainly for bowhunting but have made a shooting rail out of conduit for about $7 which works well for gun hunting. With this setup, you have a bow and gun stand for under $180.

I just purchased the goliath ss after much research, which is the same as the viper. However the seat frame is 2" wider for bigger people or when you have heavy clothes on. I am excited to use it.
